Alright, at this point, we (and Jared Leto) are not the only ones who are in love with Lupita Nyong’o — people all over the world have fallen for the Academy Award winner, thanks to her incredible talent, effortlessly chic sense of style (seriously, she can do no wrong), and the fact that every time she opens her mouth, she says something truly worth listening to. Her fanbase has been quick to grow and is incredibly inspired by the star, as evidenced by the insane amount of fan art that has been made about Lupita. There’s even a Tumblr that’s compiling the various images, some of which Lupita herself has tweeted or posted on Instagram. Check out a few more of my faves after the jump, and a bunch more over at the link! [Tumblr] Keep reading »
I just came across this photo and couldn’t not share. Lupita Nyong’o is so poised one moment and so hilarious the next. Flawless! Just date already, you two. [Photo: Getty Images]
Missed last night’s Academy Awards? No worries, I’ve got you covered. Here are the very best moments from the Oscars, including Lupita Nyong’o's intense moment with Liza Minnelli, that much-tweeted selfie, and John Travolta’s amazing inability to pronounce a Broadway star’s name. Keep reading »
Knock on wood, but Jared Leto and his beautiful ombre man bun will probably be taking home an Academy Award tonight for playing a trans woman in “Dallas Buyers Club,” but he probably won’t get as much time on stage to say thank you as he did at last night’s Film Independent Spirit Awards. I loved his full acceptance speech — which included a funny but still swoon-worthy shoutout to maybe-paramour Lupita Nyong’o — so much that I wanted to post the full transcript, which you can find after the jump. Watch the edited version, which aired on television, above. Good luck tonight, Jared! We’re rooting for you. Keep reading »
Yetsreday ESSENCE magazine bestowed Lupita Nyong’o the Best Breakthrough Performance Award at their 2014 Black Women in Hollywood luncheon for her Oscar-nominated performance in “12 Years A Slave.”
While receive this honor, Lupita gave an acceptance speech which was both heartbreaking and inspiring. She spoke about Black beauty and the times as a young adult that she felt unattractive for being so dark-skinned. She only saw lighter-skinned women on TV; as a child and adolescent, Lupita shared, she used to pray to God to make her skin lighter so she could be as desirable as them. Today, as a successful actress, she hears from young women who feel that same way right now.
Here is Lupita Nyong’o's full speech from last night, via ESSENCE. It’s extremely touching and well-worth a read: Keep reading »
Lupita Nyong’o is on today’s episode of “Ellen,” and in this already released clip, the “12 Years a Slave” actress addresses rumors that she’s dating fellow Oscar nominee Jared Leto. “You’re actually in tabloids which means you’ve really made it,” says Ellen. “Because there’s rumors that you and Jared Leto are together.”
“Ah, but I thought Miley Cyrus broke us up. That was the last thing I heard,” Lupita joked, referencing another recent rumor that Leto was actually hooking up with Miley Cyrus. Keep reading »
Ever since I came across this photo of Oscar nominees Lupita Nyong’o (“12 Years A Slave”) and Jared Leto (“Dallas Buyers Club”) eye fucking at the Gotham Awards, I’ve been ‘shipping this pair so hard. Page Six is reporting that the two were spotted getting very cozy in New York this week, prompting many to wonder if the sparks will turn into real-life romance. PLEASE YES. Vanity Fair‘s annual Hollywood Issue hits stands any day now, but the cover image has already hit the internet. The three-page-gatefold cover (the third page of the gatefold is after the jump) features six Black actors and actresses and six white actors and actresses, the former either indicating that the mag decided to get with the program or a sign that important films starring Black performers were impossible to ignore this year. Regardless, I am pretty damn pleased with this lineup of cover stars, which includes the radiant Lupita Nyong’o and Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years A Slave”), Michael B. Jordan (“Fruitvale Station”), and Idris Elba (“Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom”). I am also really digging Jared Leto’s dashing cover look and Bree Larson’s understated beauty. But I could really, really do without Julia Roberts smack dab in the middle, kicking back in Elba’s lap. Not trying to be a hater, but amongst that array of talent, her role in “August: Osage County” wasn’t worthy of the front cover, while Lupita was pushed onto page two. But that’s a fairly minor quibble, I guess. Now, when can I get my hand on a copy so I can absorb every word of that long-awaited Gwyneth Paltrow hit piece? Keep reading »
Y’all, I have a new style crush and it is serious. Her work in “12 Years A Slave” is astounding and more than worthy of winning her an Academy Award, but I can’t stop obsessing over actress Lupita Nyong’o's incredible fashion sense. She can wear anything! Black, white, every damn color of the rainbow – name it, she looks amazing in it. I mean, I’m so crazy about this girl, I made it my mission to track down every dang outfit she’s worn in public in the short amount of time she’s been in the public eye. Thirty-one outfits later, I’ve concluded that she can basically do no wrong.
