“Elmo can see that Miss Lupita’s skin is a beautiful brown color!”
That’s Elmo learning all about skin when “12 Years A Slave” actress Lupita Nyong’o visited “Sesame Street.” They talked about touch and tickling, but the most heartwarming part of their skin conversation is loving their skin color. I hope all the kids who watch Elmo and Lupita learn to love the skin they’re in, just like her. [YouTube]
Gasp! The divinely talented, Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o is on the cover of the July issue of Vogue! And, surprise, surprise, she looks stunnnnnnninnnnnnng. The interview with Hamish Bowles is also interesting, detailing Nyong’o's childhood in Nairobi, where her father is currently a senator in the Kenyan parliament; catching the acting bug as a youngster performing plays for her family; her pursuit of a higher education at Hampshire College and then Yale; and the audition process for Patsy, her Oscar-winning role in “12 Years A Slave.” I especially love how she described seeing the finished film for the first time:
“I was really nervous about seeing myself … because it had been such a profound experience in all ways. I remember it being one of the most joyful times in my life—and also one of the most sorrowful. I didn’t want my experience to be a vain one. But I will say that when I watched it, my heartstrings were pulled so tight for Solomon that I couldn’t go into the ego trip. I cried—I mean, I was inconsolable. I wept for an hour after the movie.”

The first three “Star Wars” movies (Episodes IV, V and VI) are amazing, obviously, but the three prequels (Episodes I, II and III) that came out in the late-’90s and early-’00s were such total junk that I was pretty meh on ever seeing J.J. Abrams’ attempts at the three upcoming sequels in the saga. But I may be changing my tune now that it’s been officially announced that Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o and “Game of Thrones” Gwendoline Christie — aka Brienne of Tarth, aka Baby Tilda Swinton — have been cast in “Star Wars: Episode VII.” No word yet on who they’ll be playing, but if I could, I’d be toasting them with a drink at the Mos Eisley Cantina. Hollywood has a problem: a bunch of hot, young celebrities are running around and not making hot offspring with each other. This is why we’ve complied a list of sexy stars who should totally hook up and have babies. It’s not Mindy Kaling‘s fault that she hasn’t had beautiful kids with Liam Hemsworth yet. No one has pointed out the possibility … until now. See which other famous pairs would make the world a more aesthetically gratifying place by procreating.
The clothes at last night’s fancy-pants Met Ball soiree were pretty and all, but I’m never going to be able to afford a custom-made, one-of-a-kind Lanvin dress. Not like I would have anywhere to wear it, so whatever. I — and you! — can, however, take some cues from some of the daring and stunning makeup looks worn by fabulous ladies like Beyonce, Emma Stone, and Marion Cotillard. Here are seven of my favorite made-up faces, plus the exact products used to achieve such flawlessness…
Lupita Nyong’o has it all as Hollywood’s “It” girl, but her film resumé is kind of lacking. Besides playing Patsey in “12 Years A Slave” — for which she won the Oscar – the 31-year-old actress only has two other roles to speak of. She was a flight attendant in the Liam Neeson thriller, “Non Stop,” and will voice a wolf mother in the upcoming adaptation of “The Jungle Book.”
So, why can’t Hollywood find that stellar leading role for this year’s Best Supporting Actress Academy Award winner? Is it sexism? Is it racism? Or is it because Hollywood’s run by a bunch of idiots? We’re going with a mix of all three, because we can think of at least seven different plum parts that Hollywood could cast Lupita Nyong’o in right now. Keep reading »
