I don’t usually have many feelings about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s style or, for that matter, Jada Pinkett-Smith as a whole. I try not to even think about Will Smith anymore because he just makes me sad. He is no longer the Fresh Prince I knew and loved — I thank Scientology. Anyway, “Men In Black 3″ (does anybody want to make an original film anymore or is it all sequels to sequels from here on out?) premiered in New York last night and Jada, who has made some fairly bizarre sartorial choices in the past, went for what I think is a simply gorgeous dress by Bill Blass. It’s a bit of a strain to see, but the entire skirt is sheer, with the opaque bodice and torso forming a sort of bodysuit shape not unlike Beyoncé’s Met Ball gown. I love everything about Jada’s look and I absolutely think she can pull it off, but I want to know what you guys think: is the sneakily revealing skirt totally appropriate or does it leave too little to the imagination?

Amy Heidemann of the band Karmin is known for her retro hairstyles (and her ability to muppet scat), but her pouf was looking especially voluminous earlier today at the Z100 studios in New York City. What do you think of her look? Is it pop star perfection or a little bit much?

I’m a pretty big fan of the colorful jeans trend–the brighter the better!–but this morning, when I saw a guy rocking a pair of bright red skinny jeans, I must admit I did a double take. I hadn’t realized the trend had also been translated to menswear, but a quick online search revealed that colored denim for guys is most definitely a thing. After my eyes had adjusted, I decided I’m a fan of the look. I always love to see guys taking chances with fashion and adding more color into their wardrobe. What do you think of colored denim for men? Love it or leave it? [$90, ASOS]

I am generally involved in a passionate love affair with Mila Kunis’s wardrobe, both her decadent red carpet dresses (the lavender Elie Saab she wore for the 2011 Academy Awards was one of the most gorgeous things I have ever laid eyes on) and her low-key but chic off-duty ensembles. She has an amazing body and knows how to dress it in a way that manages to be simultaneously jaw-droppingly sexy and totally relatable, like Monica Bellucci with a copious dash of Meg Griffin — I wonder why? But when it comes to this look (all Phillip Lim with the exception of her Dior pumps) from yesterday’s CinemaCon, I’m ambivalent. For the record, I am firmly pro-formal shorts, even metallic ones, so that is not the issue here. I like almost everything about it: the boxy jacket and peachy nude blouse are spot-on, as are the shoes, but the waist of the shorts and the way the light catches the sheen of the fabric leave Mila looking lumpy in the midsection. I’m not saying she looks fat or anything like that at all, but literally lumpy and just unflattering. What do you think: am I being nitpicky? Do you love this look, or would you leave the shiny shorts at home? On Ashton Kutcher’s bedroom floor, perhaps?

In her spare time, Claire Danes is married to Hugh Dancy, so she must be doing something right. Like really, really right. Regardless, I like Claire, even more so as of late, since she’s been out and about doing press for her TV show, “Homeland,” being generally funny and quirky and not at all like your typical Hollywood mouthpiece. She came out Monday night in Tribeca for the premiere of Hysteria, which her husband stars in, and chose a daring Narciso Rodriguez dress for the occasion. I honestly like that Claire isn’t afraid of taking sartorial risks — she almost never goes for basic, safe standbys, instead preferring edgier, more colorful pieces. This is a gorgeous dress any way you look at it but I just don’t know if it’s flattering on her, especially in the chest, where she’s small. What do you think of this dress on Claire: love it or leave it?

Eliza Dushku — who earned a permanent spot on my favorite actresses list with her sassy role in “Bring It On” – showed up to the premiere of a new Bob Marley documentary rocking a colorful plaid bustier and dark denim flares. At first I was a little perplexed by this outfit, but after staring at it for awhile I actually think it comes together nicely. I love the long, layered necklace, the vintage vibe of the brown leather belt, and the flash of midriff. It’s definitely a unique look, which is always nice to see. What do you guys think of Eliza’s outfit? Love it or leave it?

Love It Or Leave It: How Do We Feel About Wooden Ties?

Wood Thumb is a startup company in San Francisco that turns old pieces of wood into brand new … neck ties. Yep, wooden neckties. The accessories are one-of-a-kind thanks to natural variations in the woods, and flexible thanks to a unique design: the wood is cut into smaller pieces and connected by an elastic cord that runs lengthwise through the tie. I’m not sure what the going rate is for an upcycled wooden tie these days, but the company offers two sizes for $36 each, which actually seems like a pretty good deal. You know, if you’re into that sort of thing. So, how do we feel about wooden ties? Quirky? Dapper? Obnoxious? Would you buy one for your man? [Buzzfeed]

Love ‘Em Or Leave ‘Em: Boat Shoes?

When I started seeing boat shoes in stores and fashion editorials I thought they were awesome — comfortable, versatile, with a laid back preppy vibe — but I quickly found out that not everyone shared the sentiment. My boyfriend, for example, who, upon seeing a photo, said, “I guess if you really like them, I could learn to like them too.” And my friend Katelyn, who was a bit more direct: when I picked up a pair while we were out shopping she grabbed them out of my hand and said, “Winona, seriously, you cannot buy these shoes.” I asked her why and she replied, “Because they’re ugly.” So, what do you guys think? Are you rocking boat shoes or wishing this trend would hurry up and sink? [Sperry Top-Sider Slip-Ons, $80]

Love ‘Em Or Leave ‘Em: Capes

Capes are one of my favorite trends for fall. They’re so chic and dramatic–I love how they look paired with a casual outfit (t-shirt and jeans, anyone?) or dressed up with a pencil skirt and heels for a glamorous 40s throwback. The only problem? They’re a bit difficult to pull off. I tried one on yesterday at Banana Republic, for example, and I kind of looked like a khaki version of Gregor the beetle from The Metamorphosis. I showed it to my friend Kyle and he was like, “I don’t get it. Where are the sleeves? Is it just, like, a piece of fabric sitting on your shoulders?” Very helpful, as always. So, what do you think of the cape trend? Will you be wearing one this fall? [Via Spiga Cape, $138, Nordstrom Keep reading »

Love It Or Leave It: The Midi Skirt

One of the biggest trends heading into this fall is the midi skirt. (Get it? Not maxi, not mini, but mid-length–took me a while to figure that one out.) These calf-length skirts feel delightfully retro–especially the swingy, pleated versions–and it’s always a bonus when a trend is work-appropriate. The problem? They can be tough to wear, especially for those of us who are vertically challenged. I’m 5’3 with short legs and on the rare occasion I find a midi skirt that actually hits at mid-calf (rather than dragging on the floor), it’s not particularly flattering. “Stumpy” is really the best way to put it. So what about you? Are you embracing the midi skirt or leaving it on the rack? [Shown: Pleated Midi Skirt, $190, ASOS]
