What Would It Mean To Have Adele (Or Any Other Plus-Size Woman) As The Face Of L’Oreal?

Adele L'Oreal

Adele has reportedly backed away from a $20 million contract with L’Oreal that she has been negotiating since March. According to the UK’s Daily Mail, sources had said the singer needed “a lot of persuasion to get her to agree” but “it looks like she’s close to landing a deal.”

Only … not. The company is apparently extremely surprised Adele backed out.  Anyone who has read interviews in which she has warned about being a “sell out” and becoming “tainted” is perhaps not so surprised.

But what would it have meant for Adele, one of the most famous and beloved plus-size women, to have fronted a major beauty brand? Keep reading »

Contrary to popular belief, all mascaras are not made equal. Case in point: Diorshow, one of the few cult favorite beauty products wherein literally everybody is in the cult. Beauty addicts world over, whether they apply makeup for a living or simply dabble in perfecting their own face, are well-informed of the magic that is the $25 mascara. While I wouldn’t so much as blink at spending $25 on, say, a gorgeous lipstick (that’s $10 cheaper than my favorite Yves Saint Laurent!) that has the potential to last for years if used properly, mascara has far less integrity. In fact, you’re supposed to toss it after just three months of use. Devoted to long, thick black lashes, but burned by the hefty price tag on Diorshow and my other favorite, Chanel Inimitable, I made it my personal beauty mission to find a drugstore mascara that would give me the same lusty Kardashian-lash effect for less than half the price. Taming The Frizzies? It’s Not A Myth!

Once upon a time, a woman with a thick head of thin hair had a problem. This problem was that every winter, her hair frizzed up like static electricity was running through her veins. She fretted wearing hats. She fretted wearing earmuffs. Winter was quite unpleasant. Then she discovered L’Oreal Professional Mythic Nourishing Oil — a fancy sounding product that is basically just beautifully-scented oil to be patted on the ends of wet or dry hair. To her great joy, Mythic Oil lived up to its name: winter frizzies are now as rare as a unicorn. And woman and her think head of thin hair lived happily ever after! [$14.69, Amazon]

L'Oreal Le Gloss photo

I’m going to be honest: what initially drew me to L’Oreal Colour Riche Le Gloss was the packaging. I’m the first to admit that I’m a sucker for advertising — I don’t even wear lip gloss. But I laid eyes on Le Gloss at a drugstore chain where I was in a rush to a) catch a train and b) make a credit card minimum. Le Gloss was in my line of vision, I liked the color in the tube and the minimalist design, and so I bought it.

Hello, this stuff is glorious!  Keep reading »

Freida Pinto Gets Whitewashed By L’Oreal

We all know that Freida Pinto, star of the Oscar-winning film “Slumdog Millionaire,” is a gorgeous Indian woman. So why in the hell did L’Oreal try to Photoshop her into a white lady? [ONTD] Keep reading »

Behind The Scenes Of Jennifer Lopez’s L’Oreal Shoot

Jennifer Lopez sure is having a moment. She’s an “American Idol” judge and she’s shilling for L’Oreal now. I wonder what Tyra and Andre Leon Talley would say about her vogue-style of modeling. What do you think about it, and are you excited for J.Lo’s comeback? Keep reading »

Pretty Nails For A Good Cause

We all could use a wintry nail polish to not just carry us through the holiday season, but also to perk up our fingers and toes in the dark, cold months ahead. Burgundy is one of our fave colors: It’s as pretty as red, but not so predictable. L’Oreal Paris will donate $3 of every bottle of “Woman of the Year” sold, to benefit Dr. Hawa Abdi, a Glamour Women of the Year Fund Honoree. For 20 years, Dr. Abdi has been providing food, shelter and medical care to women and children escaping violence in Somalia. (You can learn more about her work at DHAF.org.) Giving back and looking glam: how beautiful is that?

Beauty Test Drive: L’Oreal Infallible Never Fail Lipcolour Stars Collection

I’ve had a love-hate relationship with lipstick for the last two years. I love red lipstick and apply it perfectly in the morning, even using a matching lip liner to outline and fill in my lips first. But it never fails that once I take a mouthful of yogurt at work, my spoon is wearing most of my lipstick. I can’t stand to see lipstick marks on utensils, glasses, or napkins, especially if I’m the smudgy culprit. What I hate more, though, is having lipstick on my teeth and no one telling me. So I was pretty psyched to try out L’Oreal’s Infallible Never Fail Lipcolour Stars Collection in Beyonce Red, a very vibrant red suitable for life in the limelight and on stage. The Infallible lip color basecoat and topcoat are housed in a handy-dandy compact that functions as a mirror in a pinch too. Although the name suggests this cosmetic is incapable of error, there are some rules to follow. Keep reading »

Beauty Test Drive: L’Oreal Ideal Skin Genesis Complexion Equalizer

I have extremely oily skin that is a curse (I’m always shiny) and a blessing (I won’t wrinkle easily). So for years, I’ve ignored the advice of my dermatologist and beauty professionals who said I should moisturize despite my skin type. Until recently, I hadn’t found a moisturizer that wouldn’t contribute to the oil slick and cause breakouts. I happened upon the L’Oreal Ideal Skin Genesis Complexion Equalizer by chance; someone left it on The Frisky “free table,” an area for discarded books [Anyone want some erotica? -- Editor Amelia] and unused cosmetics. It was kind of fate that the little pink box caught my eye because my skin has been looking a little blotchy lately. After about three weeks of use, it’s helping to even out my skin tone. Hair Dye That Doesn’t Make Your Eyes Tear Up

L’Oreal recently invited editors to go check out what they call a “revolution” in haircare: INOA, a new permanent dye that aims to color hair sans ammonia, long revered by colorists as the only way to get serious results. But let’s be honest here; anyone who’s ever suffered the toxic fumes and noticed strawlike hair after a dye job won’t be missing the ingredient much, right? Keep reading »
