Last night was the premiere of “Friday Night Lights” star Taylor Kitsch’s new movie, “John Carter.” Whatever, who cares about the movie, can we talk about the hair? We have a problem — Riggins’ magic hair is gone! Gone! I’m shedding a tear(s) for it right now. But Kitsch is sadly not the only guy who sacrificed his pretty long hair for an ugly short hairstyle. What is with Young Hollywood’s scissor aversion? If you’re not shaving half your head, you’re growing hair long enough to hit your waist! (From the looks of it, Lauren Conrad and Lindsay Lohan are front-runners, FYI.) It’s beyond mermaid-ish at this point—as far as I’m concerned, it’s getting downright icky, and that hair can’t be healthy (especially with all the coloring, blow drying and flatironing stars subject their heads to). According to her Twitter, Lindsay claims short hair isn’t for her: “I don’t think the director wants it short … I look ugly with short hair! Eeeeks.” I beg to differ. At the very least, chop off five or six inches. She won’t even notice the change! Lauren Conrad, also unconvinced on the short hair front told US Weekly: “I don’t feel girly without long hair! There is something so sexy about having long blonde hair … It’s so feminine.” Now, I’m all for long hair, but when it gets so far gone that it gets caught in your armpits on a regular basis, it has to go. Hot Or Not? Guys With Long Hair

Long hair is a major trend for young men these days, with Kate Hudson’s son, Ryder, as its poster child. Personally, I think little boys with long hair look like girls, but once they’ve gone through puberty, that’s another story (Smith Jerrod on SATC before he shaved his head, anyone?). Amelia and I were discussing how guys with longish hair (shoulder length or shorter) can be very attractive, as long as they take care of it. I asked a friend of mine who has long hair for his rationale for growing his hair out. “I never set out to ‘have long hair,’ I just stopped getting it cut,” he said. “I liked it more and more the longer it got — it just kind of “fit” (And it became much more practical when it got to ponytail length.) Most guys who find long hair appealing already have the requisite style and personality to pull it of, so it usually works out. Oh, and the ladies love it. Really.”
