This incredible sandcastle version of London’s famous architecture is currently being finished and detailed by sculptors at the Sand Museum in Tottori, Japan in honor of the 2012 Olympic Games. If you weren’t amazed enough by the mere existence of a sand museum, get this: the sandcastle exhibit will open to the public on April 14th, and the plan is for the castle to stay intact until January 2013. The fragility of sandcastles has always freaked me out a little, and damn, now I’m also worried about the Sand Museum janitor who will inevitably trip and crush Westminster Abbey. [Architizer]
Anybody who’s ever owned a cat knows that they choose you as much as you choose them. And that’s what makes the story of stray cat Bobcat and his owner James all the more remarkable. James, a street musician, takes Bobcat with him everywhere that he goes, and Bobcat happily seems to comply, even submitting to wearing a harness and walking around the streets of London with James on his daily jaunts. As James often reiterates to passerby, if he didn’t want to be there, he wouldn’t, but it’s clear that cat and man have a strong bond. [Laughing Squid]
We love looking at all the crazy fashions on display at fashion week, but sometimes the hair is even better. While designers like Sister by Sibling and Louise Gray took their fashion show hair to a crazy place, other designers were a bit more subdued. Either way, they’ve given us plenty of inspiration for future hairstyles. Click through to check out the cool looks on display at London Fashion Week, and check back often for more hair updates.
It’s February already? Fashion weeks are fast approaching, that’s for sure, and New York is the first up as always, with shows beginning on Thursday. Regretfully, one brand us Manhattanites don’t usually hear much from is Miu Miu, which shows in Paris. This year, though, things are different. How different, you ask? Well, we still won’t be seeing the collection strutted down the runway, but the brand is launching a (limited edition!) line of 46 unique handmade bags of 17 different material combinations using 12 different processing techniques, all to be unveiled in the big four fashion capitals (London, Milan, Paris, and NYC) during each of their fashion weeks. I know for a fact that a grand total of zero of these bags will eventually be mine, but my god, aren’t they glorious? Check out the hypnotizing gif of all 16 New York bags, courtesy of Miu Miu, after the jump. [Fashionista] Keep reading »
I’m spending this month traveling around Europe and documenting my adventures for The Frisky. So far I’ve said awkward things in cheese shops in Paris and braved the terrifying highways of Italy … today we’re talking London!
When I first arrived in London I went straight to a coffee shop and ordered an earl grey tea and a scone, because it seemed like the British thing to do. When my scone arrived it was accompanied by a little glass pot of preserves and a tub of something called clotted cream. I squealed with glee at my tiny corner table, smearing the strange and delicious condiments onto the warm scone and taking a bite. And let me tell you: that cool, sweet, clotted cream, whatever it was, brought me as close to true happiness as a dairy product can.
My first UK google search was “What the f**k is clotted cream and where has it been all my life?”
