Amelia and I were just talking about how much better we think Taylor Swift looks with bangs than without. Ever since she took the bangs plunge earlier this year, Swift just looks way more elegant and chic. The bangs really frame her face and make her look more mature.

I’ll probably always have bangs, because I’m too impatient to grow my hair out, and sideswept bangs seem to really frame my face best. And Amelia has had bangs for basically her entire life, ever since her mom gave her an epic bowl cut in 1984. But bangs don’t necessarily work on everyone.

We’ve got several other celebs who got banged up in the past year — sometimes for better and sometimes for worse. Let us know what you think in the comments!

This past weekend, I watched the classic ’90s movie “Empire Records,” which follows a day in the life of an independent record store and all of its employees (indie records stores, remember those?). Over the course of the film, one girl (Robin Tunney from “The Craft”) tries to commit suicide and shaves her head, another (Renee Zellweger) sleeps with a washed up rock star, and yet another gets into Harvard and falls in love with her best friend (yep, Liv). Also, nobody seems to actually work.

My friends and I were really coveting Liv’s femme take on grunge, so I thought I’d see if I could copy her iconic look. Check it out after the jump.

I’m never surprised to see Liv Tyler out and about looking spectacular, because let’s face it: she always looks amazing. Liv may have won the genetic lottery several times over (who would have ever suspected that scary Steven Tyler could reproduce so beautifully?), but it’s her sartorial choices that reinforce her star status. Seriously, I haven’t seen a movie of hers since the last “Lord of the Rings,” but that’s easy to forget when she’s always seen out and about looking flawless and dressed the part … usually in Givenchy, no less (she’s the face of the legendary French brand). The actress was spotted in Paris earlier today looking true-to-form in all black with a graphic twist, a look that practically begs to be copied. Let’s do it, shall we?
