Anthropologie gives me a complex. I walk in and I’m like, “I want this life,” which turns into “Does anyone actually have this life?,” which quickly becomes “Why is this life so goddamn expensive?” I go because I want one top; I emerge with that top, a whimsical set of $20 bobby pins, a $60 coffee table book, and maybe some driftwood or tree branches. Don’t even get me started on their beauty section — as the biggest sucker of all time for gorgeously packaged items I definitely don’t need, I am all over it. Basically, Anthropologie is a well-designed trap, and they get me every time. It’s shabby chic, you guys! I need it! Keep reading »

It’s official: we’ve entered an age in which your average lipstick just won’t cut it, and neither will the slippery high-gloss patinas of yore. We need moisturizing, long-wearing, intensely pigmented matte colors that won’t flake, fade, or budge, and we need them, like, yesterday. Enter Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick, a rich, creamy formula that dries to a flawless velvety finish. It will see you through the workday and beyond, without the moisture-zapping effect mattes are infamous for. In 9 shades ranging from the prettiest of muted rose-petal hues to the most vibrant, almost-neon coral (which, guilty, I’m wearing right now), there’s something for everyone in the Opaque Rouge lineup. Plus, it feels so light on the lips that you’ll forget you have it on … that is, until you sneak a glance in the mirror to find that it’s persevered far beyond even its promised 14 hours. (And say what you will about the siren call of packaging — the slim futuristic tube looks pretty damn glamorous peeking out of a clutch.) [$28, Sephora]

I think I’ve mentioned my love for Revlon Lip Butters a few times now, most recently in the context of my summer makeup routine, but I thought it was time to make things official and ask Lip Butter to marry me write up a full Beauty Test Drive. This awesome lip balm/lipstick hybrid is the bestselling lip color of the year, and I’ve contributed to its success by buying three shades (so far) and recommending it to many of my friends, especially the ones who are hesitant about lipstick. Want to know why? Get the scoop, after the jump… Keep reading »

So who was it that said redheads couldn’t wear pink? Sure, one of Jessica Chastain‘s false lashes may be trying to make a run for it, but the rest of her looks freakin’ fabulous. With that said, I am neon pink lipstick’s fiercest, most loyal advocate; I will testify to the death that a seriously hot semi-matte pink like this one looks good on anyone, anywhere, all the time, and that means redheads, too. It brightens up fair complexions, provides killer contrast to a tan, and makes your teeth look whiter and your eyes sharper and clearer. Such a bold shade plays best with a fresh, natural complexion and little color elsewhere, like Jessica’s glowy skin and light-handed blush in a similar shade. I’m just a touch disappointed that Jessica went the extensions route this time rather than sport her new bob, but hey, she looks gorgeous either way.

Lust Vs. Must: Awesome Orange-y Red Lipstick

Coral is the color of summer. But do you want to spend a ton of money on a lipstick you’ll probably shove deep in your junk drawer once fall comes? We didn’t think so. So we’ve compared some of the most popular corals on the market. Can you tell which is the $24 lipstick and which was plucked from CVS shelves for just $1.99? Keep reading »

Should Heidi Klum Get Her “Responsible Mom” Card Revoked For Letting Her Girls Wear Lipstick?

Suri Wears Lipstick
She's an ageless Thetan in a child's body! Right, Dad? Read More »

Growing up, I was never given any restrictions regarding whether or not I could wear makeup, or how much makeup I was allowed to wear. My parents, who are admittedly pretty laissez faire by most standards, are also the type to choose their battles, and what I put on my face was just not one of them. I expressed interest in products from a hilariously young age — home videos show me at five talking extensively about my mother’s fancy body wash like a regular Suri Cruise — and for all but a few grease-filled tweenage years, I’ve been beauty-crazed ever since. That’s why I find it so difficult to fathom why mothers, particularly those under the relentless and unforgiving eye of the media spotlight, receive so much flack for letting their young daughters wear a little bit of makeup.
