Normally I’m pretty against plastic surgery, but I would not say no to a total January Jones Face Transfusion. Look at her face. It’s so pretty. Sigh. Science has obviously not gotten to a point where we can steal celebrity faces for ourselves, and I don’t know that January would be down for such a thing anyway, but luckily we can copycat her makeup! After the jump, I explain how to do it! Keep reading »
In case you haven’t heard, the ’90s are back in a big way, with mixed results. I’m happy to leave hair scrunchies and clunky sandals back in middle school, but deep, rich, wine-stained lips are a ’90s beauty trend I’m happy to see come back in a big way. Kerry Washington and Margot Robbie rocked plum pouts at the Academy Awards, and yesterday, Emma Watson was spotted with gorgeous wine-stained lips of her own. Want to slick on a little bordeaux? Here are nine wine-colored lipsticks that would look smashing on just about anyone… Keep reading »
I know it’s not the most mature makeup pursuit, but I’ve been searching for the perfect soft pink lipstick since I was, oh, 15. It needed to have a creamy texture, a tone that would look fabulous with a tan but wouldn’t wash me out in winter, and the color had to be perfect: not frosted and cheap looking, but still bright and fun. After trying out NARS’ new Villa Lante satin lip pencil from the Final Cut collection, I might have finally found it… Keep reading »
Katie and I received the opportunity to meet makeup expert Sonia Kashuk to discuss her new collection for Target. One of the products Sonia was most excited to share was her new Dewy Luxe Lip & Cheek Balm. We both decided to test it for this Beauty Test Drive. Keep reading »
I’m not a lipstick person. Not in the slightest. For the most part, avoiding lipstick is due to my enormous fear that it’s going to smear all over my face or my teeth. I’ve seen it happen to too many women and my second-hand embarrassment for them has scared me away from wearing lipstick in my day to day life. I’ll wear it on a rare special occasion, but otherwise my lip product of choice is Eos lip balm.
The thing is, though, I like how lipstick looks on me. Every time I’ve ever gotten my makeup done by a professional, they finish with the lips and I love how it looks. I have small, thin lips and it’s sort of amazing, the optical illusion tricks that can give me a pout that I cannot believe is on my own face. So when a girl friend took me shopping at Make Up For Ever to buy makeup for my wedding, I bought their Rouge Artist Natural lipstick in a sheer natural pink (Iridescent Pink Gold — shown on me after the jump!) that’s perfect for every day wear. I feel like we kind of have an “honesty at all times” policy over here at The Frisky. I may not be particularly forthcoming about my sex life or getting tampons lost inside of me, so I guess it’s only fair that I divulge all of my beauty secrets, no facades to be allowed. Let’s start with the most pressing: I am coming off what I like to think of as a lipstick diet. It is a diet in two senses: metaphorically, insofar as I am restricting myself from purchasing them, much like one restricts certain foods or manners of eating on an actual diet, and literally, insofar as when I do wear lipstick I tend to actually eat it off my face.
