We’re extremely excited about the return of either of our favorite shows this fall, but we’ve realized that a season finale refresher is in order. Hey, when our lives and our homies’ lives have real cliffhangers, we can’t be expected to remember months later what happened to our friends on TV, too. Read our updates just in time for the start of the fall TV season on September 2.
Last night on Project Runway the designers had to create a work outfit that could transition to night for Brooke Shields’s character on Lipstick Jungle. Besides receiving immunity for the next challenge, the winning designer would also have the ultimate prize of Shields wearing the outfit during season two of Lipstick Jungle. They had 30 minutes to sketch and then Shields picked six designers from the remaining 12 to head up a team of two.
After two episodes of Lipstick Jungle, we’re hooked like the show is made of chocolate. Despite wanting to hate it, we’ve managed to make it through the name “Lipstick Jungle”, some cheesy dialogue, and the show’s “how to look like the stars” Maybelline make-up commercials without puking. But there is still one chunk that’s too hard to swallow and, sadly, it’s smack dab in the middle of our favorite part here at the Frisky: the sex scenes. Nico, played by blonde beauty Kim Raver, has a hot boy toy, Kirby, played by the six-pack named Robert Buckley. While the man has plenty of sex appeal, the 80’s kid inside us has stopped picturing the pink Nintendo Kirby and has gotten stuck on yet another timeless image: Cher. You know her signature top lip lick? She, and her impersonators (like Jack on Will and Grace—check out the clip above!), do it all the time…and so does Nico while she’s having sex! Instantly “Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves” starts playing in our heads—although, perhaps that would be a better show title…. Anyway, we hope this week we’ll get to stay in the moment when Nico and Kirby get down and Nico’s tongue won’t get out.
So I finally got a chance to watch the first episode of Lipstick Jungle this weekend and, boy, did this guy give me a great first impression. His name is Robert Buckley and he plays a 25-year old hottie named Kirby, who becomes the much younger lover of married magazine publishing exec Nico (played by Kim Raver). His character is supposed to be the dangerous, enticing, livin’ on the edge sweet but bad boy who adds a little spice to Nico’s otherwise lackluster love life. We’re sure that was a major stretch.
It’s weird—as much as I loved Sex and the City when it was on TV, in retrospect, watching the episodes on demand now, I realize how “meh” the show was in its last few seasons. Which is why I was half-super excited and half-weary of seeing the latest show based on a Candace Bushnell book, Lipstick Jungle. After watching the premiere last Thursday, I’m pretty sure that the show is going to have the same indulgent guilty pleasure quality of SATC, minus the oh-so-quotable-soundbites and wading pool-deep lessons. More of my assessment, after the jump.
