Girl Scout Cookies On Your Lips

God love Girl Scout Cookies, but they’re sadly only available a few months out of the year. If you don’t stock up, or just have no self-control, then your GS cookie intake is pretty limited. To satiate Thin Mint fans year round, Girls Scouts have partnered with Lip Smacker to make a series of cookie-flavored lip balms. The balms come in Chocolate Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter, Thin Mints, Trefoils and Coconut Caramel Stripes (which used to be called Samoas, ahem). Delicious, you say? Yes. But oh, such a tease. (Currently available in stores at Walmart and Claire’s Boutique.)

The sexiest thing about me? My extremely chapped lips. I realize most people have to combat this condition once the temperature drops and brisk winds are in the air, but my lips are unique in that they have no regard for the climate. Through both bitter chills and balmy 100+ degree days, my lips are intent on cracking, peeling, occasionally bleeding, and generally trying to make a run from my face. Granted, I tend to exacerbate it by licking and picking at the issue, not to mention applying unfit products that are bound to dehydrate my pucker (red lipstick, why must you be so drying?!?!). As a result, I’ve tried just about every lip balm on the market that claims to repair the situation and leave your lips feeling silky smooth. But, more often than not, they fail me. I’ve found a few winners along the way but nothing that stands out as my healing holy grail. I have hyper-sensitive skin that blooms rashes if you look at it wrong, and my lips are no different. Some of the most popular and highly recommended formulas have left me red and itchy for days.

That’s why I was more than a little  excited when a Bar and Balm Bag from Pleasant River Soap Co. landed on my desk… Keep reading »

Beauty Test Drive: Bliss Fabulips Treatment Kit

The beauty industry is all about developing products and then creating a demand for said products — which actually means they convince us that we really, really, really need those creams, salves, and washes or we’ll turn ugly! So I have to admit I was quite skeptical when I was invited to try out Bliss’ Fabulips Treatment Kit at one of the Bliss spas in NYC … That and y’all know I’ve been having some lip issues this summer, but I took one for the TF team and puckered up for the nice lady in the Bliss lab coat, anyway.

Clove Cigarette Lip Gloss Is Yumz

I am a lip balm connoisseur. I am over Cherry Chapstick and love it when I find something with a more unusual flavor. So I am very excited about these TokyoMilk Dark Lip Elixirs that come in flavors like Salted Caramel, Absinthe, and Smoked Salt. I opted for the Clove Cigarette flavor, and it’s gloriously spicy. And—bonus—it doesn’t give you lung cancer. [Nylon, TokyoMilk] Keep reading »

Between makeup, moisturizer, lip balm and the like, your purse often ends up weighing about 1000 lbs. We’re always looking for products that make it possible to schlep one less thing around. Now if only we could figure out a way to combine our wallet and our lipsticks into some super-powered purse device.

Tried & True: Korres Lip Butter

I am adamant about always having smooth and kissable-looking lips. After all, who wants to look at chapped, cracked, and super dry lips, let alone smooch them? Nothing about skin falling off your lips is attractive, and it’s definitely not appetizing. But lip gloss isn’t meant for moisturizing. Most of them are too sticky, some are too thick and heavy, others dry out your lips, and the majority don’t do anything but make you look like your lips got slimed. I used to just use ChapStick for moisture. Then I transitioned to Aquaphor, but I still wanted something with a bit of a tint and a little gloss. I tried a couple other products until I finally found Korres Lip Butter. Keep reading »

Rosebud Salve Face-Off: The Tube Vs. The Pot

The secret to getting rich must be to invent something so simple that makes people say, “Why didn’t I think of that? It was so obvious!” The guy who thought up cheese in a can must be sitting back in his mansion sipping a cheesetini and pitying us all. For fanatics of iconic beauty product Rosebud Salve, this new tube packaging is a revelation. Traditionally available in a pot form, the lip balm often leaves oily traces on your clothing, phone, or keyboard when applied with your fingers. Now your addiction can be a clean, no-muss endeavor. How To Fight The Flu This Season: Lip Balm

‘Tis nearly the season of the dreaded flu shot. Those things hurt! And they make you feel awful for a day. Another alternative? LaRocca’s Shield Multi-Active lip balm contains bacteria-fighting ingredients like Camu Camu, a blend of amino acids and vitamin C, which helps strengthen your immune system. There’s also Cha de burge, which is another property used to help kill viruses. (Yeah, we’ve never heard of either of those before, either. But everything you read on the internet is true, right?)

“Anti-Microbal” elements aside, the balm also acts as a good lip moisturizer. Does it really fight off illness? We hear the psychosomatic benefits are wonderful. [$18, LaRoccaSkinCare.com via DailyCandy]
