Bonedigger, a disabled lion at G.W. Exotic Animal Park in Oklahoma, has made some unlikely BFFs in his zookeeper, John Reinke, and a Dachshund named Milo. The lion was born with a metabolic bone disease, leaving him mildly disabled in his front legs. Reinke, who is himself disabled, personally raised the lion and formed a closed relationship with him. The big cat used to live in his home, where he bottle fed him until he was too big to live indoors any longer. At 500 lbs., Bonedigger looms over both Reinke and his tiny canine friend Milo, but that hasn’t scared the pup one bit over the course of their five-year friendship. Several other Dachshunds who live at the park have joined Milo in comforting the lion, providing lots of cuddles and playtime for the cat. Reinke told the Daily Mail, “Milo does his best to copy Bonedigger when the lion tries puffing to communicate with other lions in the park…Bonedigger’s like a dog and when he hasn’t seen me for ages he gets all excited and runs up to me.” I don’t know about you, but this animal park sounds like my personal heaven. In case you were still on the fence about whether rich and famous people live different lives from the rest of us, I submit this picture of a young Melanie Griffith, tucked into bed with her pet lion. Griffith’s mom, “The Birds” actress Tippi Hedren, was actually the owner of the lion, and let it live all over the family’s Hollywood mansion. A 1970s Life magazine spread chronicles the family’s life with the large cat, and shows Tippi, you know, hanging out on the carpet with him, as well as the kids roughhousing in the pool with the furry beast. I can’t tell if this would be a beautiful dream or a terrifying nightmare, but I think it does explain quite a lot about Melanie Griffith, no? A couple more pics after the jump.

What do you get when you mix a lion with a liger? You get a Liliger, duh! Liligers are super cute, squishy little big cats. Born at a Russian zoo, this Liliger is named Kiara and is being raised by a regular old housecat since her mom wasn’t able to produce enough milk. Click through for more cute as heck pics of Kiara and her surrogate ma. [WhiteWolfPack]
Earlier this week, important news broke: a mutt named Lejon adopted white lion cub JoJo after JoJo’s mom became sick and was unable to take care of her. They’re the best of friends, and oh my God, my mind is exploding from the combined cuteness. Make. It. Stop.
But Lejon is hardly the only animal to take up caring for another species in need. After the jump, we’ve got several more surprising (and super cute) inter-species adoptions.
This lion Mary is a total whore. She had sex with both a tiger and lion and then gave birth to a tigon cub and a lion cub. It’s a world’s first! But obviously the important part is that this lion has two baby daddies. What. A. Slut.
