There’s kind of a random op-ed in the Femail section of The Daily Mail today called “How Can Lily Allen Be Chanel’s Latest Fashion Muse?” that bemoans Karl Lagerfeld’s apparent fascination with the singer, whom the writer refers to as looking “worse for wear” in the past. It’s curious for several reasons: The paper is known for publishing as much as it possibly can about the real girl vs. models debate—they’re always quick to lay it on thick when it comes to busting airbrushers and acquiring quotes from magazine editors who vow to fight too tiny sample sizes, and they even have a regular feature where they photograph their writers trying on designer clothes worn by celebrities to see how they translate in real life. So why would they bother with a piece by a writer who’s all pissed off about Lily Allen being the latest Chanel girl because she’s not fashion enough?

Damn Lily! The singer-turned-Chanel-model showed up at a London party this weekend dripping in (presumably gratis) Chanel hardware. We knew the whole chunky necklace trend was mage right now (Rihanna certainly thinks so), but this rendition is totally intense. We love it but, budget-wise, we’ll probably stick to the DIY version our own Lily recently suggested. [London, 9/07/09]

Lily Allen has been absolutely wowing us with her eye makeup lately, what with all the metallic swooshes and crazy liner. But somehow we missed this photo from last weekend’s V Festival in the U.K. and just had to share. Is it working? You be the judge. It’s no-big-whup news that Lily Allen is starring in the new Chanel campaign. In her first foray into Chanel ads, she did the whole Audrey Hepburn thing. But the new 411: We’ve spotted behind-the-scenes photos from the latest installment, courtesy of The Daily Mail. Lily’s posing with Karl (who’s also working it behind the camera) and rocking a seriously layered ‘do. The Mail claims she’s looking sort of nervous, but I’m calling BS on that—Miss Allen is a photo shoot vet, and knows her way around a camera. Check ‘em out…

Check out this cute behind-the-scenes video of Lily Allen shooting “The London Issue” for Elle UK. Maybe she’s learned some modeling moves from her new bestie Kate Moss, because as mag photog Rankin notes, she kills it. Choice quotes include: “I love a wig on a celebrity”; “Lily is London”; “My weight fluctuates so much; the most important thing is being comfortable”; and “I thought she was gonna be cool, but she’s like, uber-cool.” [Pipeline]

Lily Allen needs to take her own advice and smile. The 24-year-old started sobbing in the middle of her concert in Finland over the weekend. Through her tears, she told the audience that she had fallen and hurt her back the night before and was on painkillers. The pain and medication combo was making her super emotional. [Metro UK]

Lily finished the concert but we’re starting to wonder why so many musicians are getting hurt these days…

Lily Allen’s style has varied over the years, as she’s gone from a poppy Brit icon to a highbrow Chanel cover girl. So when the singer announced that she’d be putting out a jewelry collection, guesses as to what it might look like drew a blank. Vogue UK has released the first images of the line, and the pieces prove to be delightful with pendants of fruits, animals, coins, and friendly icons. In short, classy and simple but still fun and cheeky—with an edge that is undeniably Allen. Interestingly, her inspiration came from her totally cool-sounding grandmother who was a gypsy. (Other pieces in the bunch feature gypsy sovereign coins.)

We’re starting to see a much more sophisticated and grown-up side of Lily—Grazia even caught her on video as she shot the line’s ad campaign. She’s totally professional and apparently did her own styling pre-camera, dressing herself in Topshop and vintage Chanel (nice!). During the recent couture week in Paris, designer Elie Saab showed an entirely white collection, which included matte ivory eyeshadow surrounding the models’ eyes. Sure, they looked a little like aliens or the White Witch from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, but I tried out some of the stuff, and without any coaxing, my friends started complimenting me on how fresh and awake I looked.

If you’d prefer more of a fairy goddess look than extreme runway style, follow Lily Allen’s lead and use a shimmering white. Whether you want to surround your eyes like she did or just apply a smidge on your lid is your call.

“22” is one of Lily Allen‘s more feminist-y songs and her video of boozy party girls in smeared lipstick singing into a club bathroom mirror is just perfect. (P.S. Also check out her video for “Not Fair,” if you missed it!)

Actually, scratch that, there are many ways celebs can get publicity, including sex tapes, pregnancy rumors, dramatic break-ups, and quickie marriages. But the two strategies that seem to be the most popular lately are the always-successful yo-yo dieting blitz, as perfected by Oprah, Jessica Simpson, Kirstie Alley, and Mariah Carey, and bad-mouthing another celeb on twitter or one’s personal blog.
