What it's like to date as a bisexual woman. Read More »

For 10 years, I struggled with my sexual orientation and what to call it. I searched for labels that seemed to fit me best — bisexual, lesbian, fluid, queer? I had been with my first girlfriend for over two years, but still didn’t identify as gay because I continued to be attracted to men.

When I started dating men again at the age of 26, I wasn’t really falling for any them. One night, while I was having sex with a new guy for the first time, I burst out into tears because I realized I was a lesbian.

It wasn’t the intercourse itself that made me come to this realization, it was that being with a man emotionally and physically didn’t feel right. I wasn’t emotionally capable of loving a man. I had feelings of lust, even romantic attraction to the guys I dated, but I never felt that magic spark that bring couples together. Keep reading »

Girl On Girl: Lesbian Bed Death Is A Big, Fat Myth

A few weeks ago, a man attempted to insult me by telling me I suffer from “lesbian bed death.” Rather than get upset, I just laughed. Hard. The dude about whom we are speaking doesn’t know me. He has no idea if I have a girlfriend or how often I get down. I thought about how amazing and freaky life between the sheets is for me these days. I was recently in the car with a friend of mine, discussing my girlfriend and, I’ll admit, I was talking about my sex life. I don’t remember exactly what I said but I know it contained the phrase, “Then we had sex.” At this point my friend, a dude, took it upon himself to inform me that, “Lesbians can’t have sex.”

Rather than jam a tube of lipstick in his eye, I said, “Lesbians absolutely have sex.” We spent the rest of the car ride arguing about this, my friend repeatedly telling me to look up of the definition of sex in the dictionary. He was sure, he said, that it would contain the word “penis.” Keep reading »

Sex On TV: Discussing The Dirty Deed

On last night’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” Dr. Callie Torres struggled with her feelings for Dr. Erica Hahn. Neither of them has been in a same-sex relationship before, and Callie isn’t sure she’s going to like the sex part. In the above clip, Dr. Miranda Bailey gives Callie some advice that all of us could use whenever we’re doing something for the first time. See, you shouldn’t really be doing anything that you don’t feel comfortable talking about. Now, didn’t we all learn that in seventh-grade sex ed? Keep reading »
