This week, there is so much exciting news from that magical land where stars are cast for movies we won’t get to actually watch for years. First off, Clint Eastwood is slated to direct a remake of “A Star is Born,” the classic musical tale of an alcoholic actor who helps a youngin’ make it big while his own career crumbled. Both Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand have starred in remakes of it before, so I was interested to see who Eastwood would big for the female lead. And woo hoo—it will be Beyoncé. Will Smith was once rumored to for the male lead, but the word on the street now is that Eastwood is going after Leonardo DiCaprio, who he’s currently working with on “J. Edgar.” And that pairing would be kinda awesome. [Deadline]
Speaking of ladies we love belting out songs on screen, Scarlett Johansson has signed on for a musical, too. Keep reading »
I sort of love the idea of richie rich celebrities gathering in swank hotel rooms for illegal high-stakes poker games with an $100,000 minimum buy-in. Apparently, this is what Tobey Maguire, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and other assorted Hollywood high-rollers have been up to. I imagine there were lots of cigars at these games, not to mention tomfoolery that would make a gossip columnist drool all over themselves.
So how did we find out about these underground poker games? Because Maguire, along with Nick Cassavettes (the director of “The Notebook”) and Gabe Kaplan (the star of “Welcome Back Kotter,” who I’m guessing is like the crazy older uncle of the group) just got sued over them. Keep reading »
Dudes, want to plan a date that will have Blake Lively eating out of the palm of your hand? Or at least, straightening the Mickey Mouse ears on your head? Take the woman to Disneyland! Blake and new rumored boyfriend Leonardo DiCaprio headed there on Sunday night, right after the MTV Movie Awards. The two went on StarTours and hung out at a penny arcade on Main Street.
But interestingly, Blake also went with Ryan Gosling back when it was rumored they were dating. Keep reading »
Step aside, Robert Redford and Mia Farrow. Baz Luhrman’s new onscreen version of “The Great Gatsby” keeps getting bigger and better. We were pretty pumped a few months ago when we heard that Leonardo DiCaprio would be taking on the role of everyone’s favorite social climber. Oh, and then we saw that adorable Carey Mulligan had been cast as his Daisy, with Tobey Maguire stripping off the spidey suit to play Nick Carraway. Now we hear that the film will be turning New South Wales into its East Egg. And the strangest news of all—the whole thing will be shot in 3D. It seems like a strange choice for the great American novel, but, then again, we loved Luhrman’s “Romeo + Juliet” and “Moulin Rouge” so much that we are willing to withhold judgment until the bright colors, big song and dance numbers, and outrageous costumes are swirling in front of us. Here’s hoping “Gatsby” can get the bad taste of “Australia” out of our mouths. [Huffington Post] Keep reading »
Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t think the skies were so friendly this weekend. He was on a Delta commercial flight to Moscow from New York’s JFK when, a few minutes after takeoff, one of the jet’s engines blew. Several witnesses on the ground called emergency services to say the plane was on fire, but the pilots had it under control. While the lights went out in the passenger cabin, they used the jet’s good engine to circle the airport for an hour and dump enough fuel to safely land the debilitated plane. Leo put out a statement via his rep about the incident today. “[Leonardo] wishes to commend the actions of the pilot and flight crew in bringing the plane to a safe landing,” it read.
Leonardo is far from the first celebrity to be on a very scary flight. After the jump, tales of celebrity plane rides gone turbulent. Some of them have happy endings, and very sadly, some do not. Keep reading »
Leonardo DiCaprio is having a big moment at the … moment. He has been cast in the lead of two movies I cannot wait for—”The Great Gatsby” and “The Devil in the White City.”
Let’s start with “The Devil.” Keep reading »
This story took some time to hit the gossip scene, but Leonardo DiCaprio allegedly had a not-so-fun bathroom experience at the World Cup earlier this month. The actor attended a semi-final game in his usual disguise of a baseball cap and sunglasses. Apparently, the accessories didn’t do him much good because he attracted the attention of quite a few fans on his way to the men’s room. The vuvuzelas-toting fanatics followed DiCaprio into the bathroom and surrounded his stall in order to get a peek at little Leo. The number of Peeping Toms got so big that the stall began to collapse, which got Leo screaming for help. Security eventually heard his cries and cleared the crowd before DiCaprio found himself with his pants unzipped in a pile of crazies. [Ask Men]
Do we believe this tale or does it seem a tad far-fetched? And if it’s true, I wonder how Paris Hilton and Bill Clinton’s bathroom trips went? Keep reading »
