David Lerner’s Leggings Aren’t For Me, But May Be For You

I often find myself judging the quality of an outfit in relation to whether or not I would wear the outfit. And since I have a simple traditional taste, I rule out a lot of great fashion-forward looks. For example: the revival of the 70s and 80s legging-as-pants look. For those of you with the legging fetish, behold [David Lerner's half-ripped, ripped, and latex leggings!] Although you will never find me in ripped or latex pants, I commend the women that pull the look off flawlessly. Imagine how self-assured you have to be to strut your stuff in shiny, skin-tight material. The leggings-as-pants wearers do not care if passerbys stare and they do not worry about what other people think. They simply live life and exude confidence. This is not to say that those of us who have a more conservative style are any less secure—we just like a different look for one reason or another. However, it is more common to dismiss a woman (as a friend, an employee, etc.) because she is wearing something eccentric rather than to accept her for it. And thus, it is important (for me) to remember that the fashion daredevils warrant the respect and approval of all fashionistas.

Camel Ammo Fights Camel Toe

Camel toe has stepped up its presence across America since leggings are back in style and tighter than ever. Instead of just switching back to pants, people keep coming up with ways to smooth things over. First, there was the
Cuchini
, and now there’s Camel Ammo! For 10 bucks, you can get a pink camo print U-shaped disc that slips right into the cotton flap in the crotch of your panties, which prevents your lady bits from going toe up. Plus, it’s machine washable! Clever, sure, as is the Camel Ammo slogan, “Waging war on the front lines.” But maybe the real problem here isn’t the fabric lip stick, it’s giving women more excuses to continue to wear the fashions that show camel toe. So, just for the record, ladies: tights are still not pants. [Trendhunter]

Tights Are NOT Pants

Some geniuses had the great idea to start a website called Tights Are Not Pants. Why? They’re “tired of tolerating attempts to force tights into a non-native garment category and have decided to do something about it.” Downloadable flyers read: “Tell Your Douche Friends: TIGHTS ARE NOT PANTS,” “do unto others: tights are not pants,” and “TIGHTS WILL NOT SUFFICE.” Occasionally, I wear nearly opaque tights with shirts that hit at least my mid-thigh, and if anyone gives me one of these flyers, they will get a tongue-lashing and a dissection of their outfit. However, when it comes to women wearing short shirts or leotards with tights around town, I have to agree that’s TMI. I’ve seen women on the street and celebrities wearing tights instead of leggings, and that’s who should be called out, but only by people who have never committed a fashion faux pas in their life. Quick Pic: Whitney Port Loves Her Some Jeggings

Whitney Port is the bravest girl we know. She is the first person we’ve seen try the jean-legging combo. While she’s thin enough that they don’t look bad, we wonder if they’re cutting off her circulation. [LA, 5/19/09] Keep reading »

Jeans And Leggings Shouldn’t Be Combined Into One Product

We’re kind of split down the middle when it comes to leggings. Simcha and I love them, and Amelia and Catherine wouldn’t be caught dead in them. But when we saw this leggings-jeans combo from Lee, we all gave a resounding: “Hell, no.” How the Australian division of Lee Jeans describes the Licks line:

“Think leggings, with a zip and a fly. These babies are so slim through the leg that if we hadn’t put a sexy zip in the inseam a normal human girl wouldn’t get them over her foot. They are the ultimate skinny jean — that give you the sleek legging look, with the durability and design features of a jean.”

I’m sorry, but these pants look like a yeast infection waiting to happen. If you’re lucky enough to avoid that, you’ll be embarrassed by the inevitable camel toe. It’s not a hard decision to make: either you want to wear leggings or you want to wear jeans. There’s no need for a combination of the two. Thankfully, Licks haven’t made it to the States, but I’m sure some trend-driven retailer is knocking them off right now. [Fashion Copious via Fashion Indie] Keep reading »

If Tights Aren’t Constrictive Enough For You, Put Your Legs In Cages

As more celebrities say “no” to pants, tights and leggings have become stand-alone articles of clothing. Now, they’re getting accessorized. A couple months ago, we checked out some cool chain-mail stockings, but they appeared to be possibly dangerous. Australian designer James Lillis, who makes the craziest, fanciest tights we’ve ever seen, has come up with a style called “Cages” that cost $120 a pair. The leggings feature gold or silver chains hooked onto them — so it looks like your legs are locked in a cage. You know how your legs feel so fabulous when you take off a pair of tights at the end of the day? They’d probably feel twice as free when you let them out of these leg Cages.
