There’s leggings. There’s jeggings. So what the hell are “treggings”? It belies my maturity level when my first guess was “triceratops leggings.” But no, treggings are a cross between leggings and trousers. A hybrid, if you will. Treggings are formfitting from the thighs to the legs, but are more structured on top and often have a zipper. Personally I would just call these “tight pants,” but what do I know?
Anyone else think the cutesy names for various types of leggings are getting silly? [FabSugar] Keep reading »
Did Beyonce Knowles‘ House of Dereon fashion line steal the idea of these studded leggings from Icelandic fashion brand E-label? That’s what Helba Hallgrimsdottir, who co-owns E-limited, claims. At left, E-label’s Heavy Metal Leggings designed by Asgrimur Mar Fridriksson. At right, Beyonce in House of Dereon’s version from the fall 2010 lookbook. Supposedly, Beyonce bought the E-label’s leggings last year at a London Top Shop. “I didn’t twig straight away that this was her own label: I just thought she was wearing our leggings,” says Hallgrimsdottir upon seeing the disputed pair. “It is practically just copy/paste.” There’s so much studding going around we’re more prone to thinking it was a coincidence or inspiration. What do you think? [ONTD] Keep reading »
Come fall, Calvin Klein Legwear will launch Ultra Fit, a line of control tights and leggings. The opaque jersey tights and leggings will have a a ribbed control top, flat seams, and a comfortable, wide waistband that stays flat against the stomach. Ultra Fit is meant to give the wearer a sleek and clean appearance. Now you might be asking yourself: “Isn’t it a little late for Calvin Klein to get into the leggings game? Didn’t leggings hit the fashion graveyard?” Keep reading »
As with all trends, the fashion tides change and we’re forced to re-think those outfits that were so frequently featured in our wardrobe rotation. (I think Jessica and Susannah have proven that…) The latest trend to hit the fashion graveyard are those ubiquitous leggings, which quickly became a fan favorite despite original hesitation, given their throwback to the ’80s. Everyone fell in love, Lindsay Lohan made a little spending money off the trend, jeans were translated into legging form, and the question, “Are they pants..?” was asked more than we can count. Though leggings have stuck around for a few seasons, it seems that with fall’s heavy influence of long skirts and pants, there’s just no need for the leggings we’ve come to love. In an effort to diversify your bottom choices, we suggest going the suspender tights route, or even picking up a pair of those awesomely bad spandex shorts with a bit of lace. And say a tearful goodbye to your favorite leggings. [Guardian U.K.] Keep reading »

Since everyone’s a little obsessed with the jeggings trend, Cosabella decided to get in on the action. It’s a little strange that a company known for its lingerie wants to get into the skintight denim business, but everyone seems to want a piece of the jegging pie. The first line of Cosabella Jeans will debut May 15 with two style options: seamless leggings and a pair with a washed denim treatment. And because denim, black, and white aren’t enough options when it comes to $61 to $75 jeggings, Cosabella is planning to create an entire line of pant-inspired leggings, including a khaki look. We’re not so sure kheggings will take off. [WWD] Keep reading »
