Celebs may have worn it first, but we’ve been feeling leather (and leather-look) pants, shorts, and skirts in the forecast for some time now. The right piece fits seamlessly into any wardrobe; it can be the centerpiece of an outfit in color or worn with anything in black. Either way, it’s a luxurious, classic look with an unexpected edge. But let’s face it — good leather doesn’t come cheap. Hell, neither does good pleather. The quest to find the right pair of pants, or the perfect skirt, isn’t easy, so we’ve made it a little easier by compiling 10 of our best bets (of both leather and vegan pleather) under $300, with 4 options under $100. Don’t be afraid to invest in leather, because if New York Fashion Week runway trends are any indication (and duh, of course they are), the look is here to stay well through the next two seasons.
Leather is nothing new, but for spring/summer 2013, designers used it in innovative ways. From sewn leather trousers, to buttery leather dresses and colored denim in every hue, there was something for every leather lover at New York Fashion Week. Check out some of our faves above!
Jessica loves this Kate Spade Cobble Hill Kori hobo bag. It’s very much in Jessica’s style — feminine, soft and classic. But she’s really not feeling the bag’s $478 price tag. So rather than go into major debt for a purse, we’ve offered to find her similar bags at a much more pleasing price point. Check out what we’ve found after the jump!

Anna Dello Russo is an editor-at-large and creative consultant for Vogue Japan. But she’s probably best known for her wild costumery and show-stopping hats. Though she’s often seated front row during fashion week, it’s her outlandish outfits that have landed her time and again on style blogs. And Yoox.com even did a T-shirt collaboration featuring some of Dello Russo’s crazier looks last year. We’ve selected one of Dello Russo’s less wild outfits — worn to last week’s Stella McCartney RTW show — to steal. We love how she does so much with a fairly simple palette of black, white and gold. Check out our steal after the jump.

Leather is having such a major moment right now that designers and retailers are going beyond the classic leather coats and jackets. We also are loving leather skirts, tops, dresses, pants, and vests. Take a look at some of our favorite leather pieces that will make a statement in your wardrobe.
Nevermind that this thing is demonstrably out of our price range, this faux leather Balenciaga jacket weighs seven pounds! Seven pounds! Who wants to walk around with seven extra pounds of fabric and tickety-tackity trimmings on them all day? [Style] Keep reading »
I can’t really comprehend the thinking behind the Rachel Comey leather socks. You can get athlete’s foot for free from a really nasty locker room, so why would anyone pay $219 for an itchy yeast infection between your toes? [Creatures of Comfort] Keep reading »
“I love my leather jacket, but I don’t know if I can wear it during the summer months. Any advice?” –Lindsay
The rule in fashion is that there are no rules. I say hell yes, you can wear a traditionally winter fabric in any season. My only limitations? Don’t overdo it and stay away from black. Summer isn’t really the right time to bust out top-to-bottom biker chic, but a few leather pieces here and there can work no matter what the weather is. Check out these suggestions to keep you cool in leather all season long. Keep reading »
Are we missing something? Would anyone actually wear leather hot shorts in a situation that doesn’t involve a lot of body oil and maybe a whip? [Fashion Copious] Keep reading »
If you’re going to buy a leather jacket, invest in a good one. Aside from looking junky, cheap leather has a nasty habit of cracking and wearing out long before you’d like it to. That said, you can keep the price at a relatively reasonable level and still walk away with something that looks as classy as it does badass. For something like that, check out VEDA. Keep reading »
