A couple years ago, I wrote a love letter of sorts to my hand-me-down leather jacket. But sadly, my little leather jacket and I are breaking up. Why? Well my too-wide shoulders have pushed a wedge between us. So now I’m on a hunt for a new love because everyone needs an LLJ. Whether faux or real, a little leather jacket is an excellent layering piece when the seasons change, and can elevate the look of simple jeans and T-shirt. So during my first search for an affordable LLJ, I stuck with a price of $250 or less and found 12 leather jackets that got my style juices flowing … maybe you’ll fall in love with one too!

I felt so stylish and adult because I’d never owned a leather jacket before — my usual outerwear was a down coat from London Fog, courtesy of my dad or grandma. It was NYC in the early ’90s and a child wearing a brand-new leather jacket was asking for trouble. Keep reading »
