A Jury Will Decide If “Catfish” Was A Hoax

Even though the filmmakers and producers claimed that the movie “Catfish” was NOT a hoax, the question still lingered in people’s minds. After seeing the film and having endless discussions with friends—mostly about how hot Nev is—I feel confident that the film was really, really real. But not everyone agrees with me about the film’s authenticity, even after the Ariel and Nev Schulman and Henry Joost addressed the issue on “20/20.” Well, soon we will know for sure if “Catfish” was a ruse due to a lawsuit being brought against the film. Warning: spoilers after the jump. Keep reading »

Oprah Gets Sued For One Trillion Dollars

Oprah Winfrey and her production company, Harpo Inc., is being sued for $1 trillion for allegedly plagiarizing part of author Damon Lloyd Goffe’s book, A Tome of Poetry, in her internet-published book Pieces of my Soul. The copyright infringement suit was filed on July 31, and Goffe says that Winfrey even admitted to using his book a year ago. “In April 2008, Oprah confessed to seizing original works of authorship.” And since Winfrey allegedly sold 650 million copies of her book online for $20 each, Goffe thinks he deserves $1.2 trillion in damages. “Milk” Screenwriter Sues Over Sexytime Photos

Nakey pics of “Milk” screenwriter Dustin Lance Black and his ex-boyfriend engaged in all sorts of positions found their way onto StarzLife.com back in June. But now this site, and the dude who Black claims stole the photos, may have to pay a hefty fee. Black is suing for $3 million smackeroos! He says the use of the pictures is an invasion of his privacy, copyright infringement, and more. Oh yeah, and he’s totally confused because he thought these pics were deleted forever ago?

Interesting that Black chose not to target Perez Hilton. If Perez hadn’t posted the photos, they would have been like a tree falling in the forest. And that was not a peen joke. [NY Post] Keep reading »

Paris Hilton Sued For $8.3 Million For Not Promoting “Pledge This!”

Yesterday, Paris Hilton had to tear herself apart from her new BFFs in Dubai to take the stand in a Miami courtroom. The folks who invested in her movie “Pledge This!” are suing the heiress for $8.3 million in damages because she didn’t carry out any of the promotion for the movie that she was contractually obligated to do. Her lawyer admitted that Hilton wasn’t a big fan of the film’s final cut, but alleged that she still did her best to endorse the flick. But let’s be serious, you know that her busy schedule of partying and being slutty prevented her from doing as many appearances as the investors wanted. The silly soro-stitution movie about a fake sorority at a fake university who tried to diversify to win “Best Sorority of the Year” only opened in 25 theaters and made a very weak $2.9 million. Hilton was paid $1 million to play the lead and the investors want to recoup the money they put into this mega flop. A note to these producers: did you ever think that maybe your movie just sucked and that’s why nobody saw it? [Daily Mail] Keep reading »

L’Oreal Sued. Because You’re Not Worth It?

Sacre bleu! L’Oreal has been found guilty of racial discrimination. The French high court, La Cour de Cassation, slapped the make-up giant with the guilty sticker after it was revealed that L’Oreal and the recruitment agency Adecco planned on using only white women as staff to sell their Garnier Fructis Style hair care line. Evidently, L’Oreal thinks their French clientele is more inclined to buy hair products from a white saleswoman. Anti-racist group SOS Racisme filed the lawsuit after viewing a fax sent out by Adecco advising recruiters to hire women that are “BBR” – “bleu, blanc, rouge”, a term meaning a white French person born to white French parents. This might explain why when 38.7 percent of candidates for the job were minorities, only 4.65 of the total hired were black, Asian, or Arab. The director who sent the fax told the court she only wanted the women to “express themselves correctly in French” when selling the shampoo. So a black or Arab woman fluent in French can’t talk about conditioner ? Lame. The Paris Appeal Court fined L’Oreal and Adecco and ordered them to pay SOS Rasicme damage costs. I guess we’re not all “worth it.” [Times Online] Keep reading »
