The fact that Cincinnati Ben-Gal Alexa Brenneman has filed a similar lawsuit against her team for violating federal employment laws only seems to confirm that treating cheerleaders like underpaid (the lawsuit says cheerleaders in Cincinnati make $900 a season), undervalued objects is a common practice in the NFL. Plenty of people write Internet comments, especially if they found a dead fly in their guacamole. But some Yelp reviewers want payment for their “writing,” which they claim is integral to the site’s success. A California class action lawsuit filed by a group of reviewers says they are actually unpaid employees. Yelp is in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act, they claim, because the site “could not exist, nor make its enormous returns, without its domination and control over non-wage writers.” They even call the site a “slave ship.” Seriously? Daniel Ramos has filed a lawsuit against Yeezus with charges of assault, battery, negligence and interference with the exercise of civil rights and he wants to be paid big time for it. On her first day of training at the European Wax Center in Wexford, PA, certified aesthetician Jennifer Finley claims she was required to perform a Brazilian bikini wax on a coworker and to have one done on herself. When Finley refused to participate in the pubic hair removal, unlike the other trainees, she was let go on the spot by the store’s owner.
“I was more than shocked. I was humiliated. I felt what they were doing was illegal. It was very embarrassing,” Finley said of the experience. Keep reading »
