But she did admit that Spencer Pratt’s apology phone call to her was entirely faked—she wasn’t on the other end of that phone call at all and her reactions were spliced together from a different conversation. Lauren Conrad was on “The View” this morning to promote her “novel,” L.A. Candy (we’re going to a “reading” tonight!). The interview was pretty awkward and the ladies spent about, oh, six seconds discussing the book, after they peppered L.C. with questions about Heidi and Spencer. The greatest revelation? Sweet Bits From Lauren Conrad’s Novel, L.A. Candy
Lauren Conrad has gone from reality TV starlet to fiction writer. That’s right, “The Hills” star’s first novel, L.A. Candy, comes out today. For a book supposedly based on Lauren’s experience in La La Land, I’ve got a bit of a beef with main character Jane’s portrayal. Now I’ve only loosely skimmed, but so far Lauren describes Jane’s L.A. digs as having “urine-colored walls” and being filled with “cute things” bought at Target. Umm, stretching a little, L.C? I seem to remember a killer apartment with Ralph Lauren paint and vegan home décor by Stella McCartney. But, hey, it’s fiction right? Wait. Besides the living situation, there are many bits in L.A. The Celebs Who Sell The Most Magazines
Magazines try to put celebrities on their covers who will sell copies on newsstands, but some stars just don’t seem to attract readers the way others do. WWD searched newsstand sales numbers from the Audit Bureau of Circulations and found that Angelina Jolie, Victoria Beckham, and Lauren Conrad seem to do consistently well, no matter what magazine cover they’re on or what month the issue comes out. Vanity Fair‘s July Jolie cover was that magazine’s best seller for 2008, as was her November W. Beckham’s Elle and Allure covers were those magazine’s best sellers, and Conrad’s Shape cover sold more than that magazine’s other issues. Some cover stars you would think would do well actually fluctuated based on what mag they were on and month their cover came out. Just when I had convinced myself that I actually enjoyed the first season of MTV’s “The City,” Lauren, Heidi, Spencer, Audrina, and the rest of “The Hills” crew are back, like the back-stabbing best friends I never had. The season premiere featured a tearful Heidi and Lauren reunion, and Spencer beating up a kid who dared to tell Heidi he saw Spencer hitting on a female bartender. Lauren Conrad’s Fashion Line Is No More, Plus Other Celeb Business Failures
It’s official — Lauren Conrad’s attempt at a fashion line has ended (at least for now). Delivery of Lauren Conrad Collection spring/summer merchandise has been canceled. We knew this line was doomed from the very beginning. She charged way too much for clothes made primarily of jersey, and most of her “designs” were unoriginal and boring. Anyone could recreate the looks with a quick search online or a mall run. Unfortunately, Lauren seems to think this failure is just a minor setback. She’s actually rethinking her line and might using higher-end fabrics. The fabrics aren’t the problem, LC. Celebs are fond of dual careers, especially careers that allow them to indulge their many “creative” endeavors — painting, music, fashion design, etc. But with the recent reveal of the cover for Lauren Conrad’s first chick lit novel, “L.A. Candy,” and the news that hot smarty pants, James Franco (he has a degree from Columbia), is working on a book of short stories, it seems “novelist” is the hot new resume addition for the rich and famous. But will Conrad and Franco’s novels be any good? My hunch is a resounding “no,” at least for Conrad’s effort, but I may be willing to give Franco a chance. Season Five (probably the last) of “The Hills” starts soon and MTV has released a preview clip.
