Decipher These Designs In Disguise

Appearances can be deceiving, as we were reminded this morning when twice our eyes did double takes while doing our daily style scroll. Could you tell what these products are hiding as? Example one: Issey Miyake’s latest treat is a T-shirt for Opening Ceremony that comes packaged in the likeness of a chocolate bar. Although this made us pause—which did we want more? A T-shirt or chocolate? Chocolate. [Fashion Week Daily]

Up top, laptop sleeves made from old sweaters for a reasonable $20 by designer Davey Sommers. (Or, an innovative DIY method of recycling the goods in your giveaway pile if you’re handy with a needle.) [Style Frizz] Keep reading »

Computers Can Now Get Salon Treatments With OPI

Or, um, something like that. Remember last week when we mentioned that Dell collaborated with artists to create a series of chic laptop designs? They’re at it again, but this time, their partnership is aimed at nerdy beauty junkies. Nail company OPI worked with Dell to create a line of laptops based on famous polish colors, such as the cult classic “I’m Not Really A Waitress” (here). Six shades are launching in November just in time for the holidays, and 20 more will roll out over the course of next year. Huh. We never in a million years could have foreseen this. But there you have it. Keep reading »

Buy An Ultra Chic Laptop For A Good Cause

The Dell Design Studio has just issued Product Red, a new line of laptop covers created by cool artists where part of the proceeds go to the Global Fund to help combat and eliminate AIDS in Africa. Photographer Ben Grieme created a series of beautiful ombre color gradations (like the one above), Klaus Haapaniemi designed whimsical wallpaper-like patterns based on the four seasons, and Takashi Kusui was inspired to create gorgeous abstract prints to “demonstrate the innate energy of the continent of Africa and Mother Earth.” Check out the entire collection here. If you’re in the market for a new computer and/or an art buyer, it’s a worthwhile add-on. [Full disclosure: Ben Grieme is a dear friend of mine and he's rad. And yes, he paid me to write that last bit. Hollah!] Keep reading »

More Ram, Please: Dude Catches Computers With His Butt

No butts about it, this dude is catching computers with his butt cheeks. Maybe in this case they should be called tushtops, instead of laptops? It seems like he got confused about what upgrading to get more ram meant. [WOW Report] Keep reading »

Vivienne Tam Creates Stylish Laptop For Women

The unlikely team of Hewlett-Packard and fashion designer Vivienne Tam have conspired to create what may be the chicest ever laptop for tech-savvy fashionistas. A demo of the portable computer that looks like a clutch debuted at this year’s New York Fashion Week on the Tam catwalk. If you didn’t know, you’d think it was a purse, not a high-tech gadget. The “China Chic” outside is scarlet and blooming with pink peonies, and the PC notebook’s insides are red. At 2.4 lbs., it’s totally totable, and it comes with an almost full-sized keypad, 60 gigabytes, and a mini-webcam. The best part? It’s a steal at $700. As of this week, it’s available for pre-order. Next month, the HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition will be available in silver, pink, or black. That way, you can match your laptop to your shoes. Keep reading »
