“The L Word” is back, but this time it’s fo’ reals! So, mark your calendars, people! [After Ellen] Keep reading »

TV Spin-Off: The Real Lesbians Of LA

Ever since Shane broke up with me via TV series cancellation, I’ve been left alone, without an “L Word” to love. But now, there’s hope — six new West Hollywood gayelles will be seducing me America via the boob tube. The best part is, they’ll be real! The Showtime series creator, Ilene Chaiken, says she’s working on a reality show spin-off called “The Real L Word.” She’s currently conducting a nationwide search for America’s Next Top Lesbians. May the best women win! And co-producer Jane Lipsitz promises the new series will go there and touch us in places that have “yet to be explored on reality television.” Promises, promises. We’ve seen plenty of vag-on-vag action on reality TV from drunken “Real World” threesomes starring pseudo-lesbos. So lame. At least on this show, the hot sex will be fo’ realz. But will the “L Word” reality series live up to the scandalous amount of sexy times the series had? Patience ladies, we have to wait until the show starts airing sometime next year. 10 Things To Look Forward To In ’09

This year has been sort of a Debbie Downer. From the stock market slump, to the shocking death of Heath Ledger, to the lame duck President’s reversal of medical rights last week, things have been looking pretty glum. But I’m ready for a clean slate! So, for those of you who are with me and SO over ye ole ’08, here are 10 things to look forward to in 2009:

1. Going To Bed With Jimmy Fallon: The former “Saturday Night Live” star will get his own late night show in Spring ’09. He’s taking over Conan’s slot and the giant ginger is moving on down into Jay Leno’s time.

Levi’s Unbuttons Logo Network

The Levi’s 501 button-fly line of jeans is teaming with the Logo network, which is aimed at gay and lesbian viewers and was introduced in 2005 as part of MTV Networks. The “Logo Unbuttoned” title echoes the phrase “Live Unbuttoned,” which is the theme of an international ad campaign for Levi’s 501 that was introduced in July. Levi’s will be the only sponsor for a program block Logo plans to launch on October 12, “Saturday Nights Unbuttoned Presented by Levi’s,” which will run from 1 to 3 a.m. on Sunday mornings. The programming will include series like “The Big Gay Sketch Show,” “Queer as Folk,” and “The L Word”; music videos; comedy shows with Mario Cantone and Joan Rivers; theatrical movies like “Fighting Tommy Riley”; and short films. For the first time, Logo will not edit these shows for language or other content, but some taboos, like frontal nudity, will still apply. The shows will be available on the web and mobile phones as well as on TV. In all outlets, there will be commercials and video clips featuring gay men and lesbians talking candidly about trying to live life “unbuttoned.” [New York Times] Keep reading »

A Frisky favorite, we’ve been anxiously anticipating the release of Lykke Li’s first full length studio recording. And Youth Novels lives up to her ladylike hype! The L Word: The Show Must Go On (The Web)

The L Word has one hot television season left, tear. But it looks like there’s hope for at least one lucky lady! At the Television Critics Association press tour, Showtime’s Entertainment President, Robert Greenblatt promised that there’s a spin off in the works. Hip, hip, hooray! The best part is, you won’t have to rely on your pricey cable provider for some sweet lesbo lovin’, as these are actually webisodes that will be available on the internet. Plus, Greenblatt also promised that The L Word will continue on the web “to a large extent”, and whatever that mumbojumbo means, it’s great news for fans. After all, how could they abandon us when gay marriage is going legal, teen queen Lindsay Lohan just switched teams, and the #1 song on the Billboard Charts is Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl (And I Liked It)”?! The sixth season of the groundbreaking show goes into production this fall for its 2009 slot and the spin-off will be taped simultaneously. L Word creator Ilene Chaiken is currently working on casting, so until she’s got her ladies lined up, she’s keeping quiet about the new program’s deets. We hope they give the show to sexy hairstylist Shane or even quirky blogger, Alice. But really, like all our favorite things, we’ll take it where we can get it. [After Ellen]
