It’s exciting to see that, in a post-”Bridesmaids” world, Kristen Wiig is starting to get major clout in Hollywood. For years, she has apparently wanted to do a movie called “Imogen,” and it has finally been picked up. Written by the husband and wife team behind “American Splendor,” Kristen describes “Imogen” as such: “It’s basically about a girl who kind of pretends to kill herself. She does it to get her recently ex-boyfriend’s attention. She ends up having to go live with her mom, whom she hasn’t seen in years. It’s kind of about going back home, so she finds her life again and gets reintroduced to her family, kind of a coming home story.” Kristen is hoping to be shooting by the summer.
So what else is on Kristen’s plate? Keep reading »
For 10 years now, PETA has crowned one man and one woman as the Sexiest Vegetarians of the Year. And for their decade-iversary, the organization has chosen two of my favorite celebrities for the honor—Russell Brand and Kristen Wiig. Brand has apparently been a vegetarian since age 14 and when asked recently by Kelly Ripa if he took a fish oil supplement said, “I’m vegetarian. I think it’s cruel to squeeze oil out of a fish. Cause they’re lovely little guys, aren’t they?” Meanwhile, Kristen credits her vegetarian diet with her rockin’ body. I’d like to offer a meat-free congratulations to Russell and Kristen, who will be succeeding the honor from Olivia Wilde and Cobra Starship’s frontman Gabe Saporta last year and Kellie Pickler and Milo Ventigmiglia the year before that. There is so much to love about about this French TV interview with “Bridesmaids”‘ stars Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph. For starters, “Bridesmaids” is called a raunchy comedy, which apparently translates to “les comedies pee-pee, ca-ca coo” or something in French. And then somehow the interview devolves into a discussion about possible film plots in which farting is the main premise, because the interviewer, apparently, would watch an entire film about passing wind. So much for the French being highbrow. Seriously, this interview is so strange and hilarious, I am going to stop trying to explain it and just encourage you to watch and laugh. Keep reading »
Oh, Jon Hamm. You can scream into my vagina anytime you want. The acoustics are amazing. [Movieline] Keep reading »
We can do it, ladies! The Kristen Wiig/Maya Rudolph comedy “Bridesmaids” blew the roof off all expectations, raking in $24.4 million at the box office on opening weekend — the most important barometer in all of Hollywood. While “Thor” came in #1 at the box office this weekend, “Bridesmaids” followed at #2. People who care about lady-issues, such as why only a handful of women are prominent in comedy and why movies with all-female casts are often denigrated as “chick flicks,” were waiting with bated breath to see if “Bridesmaids” succeeded. The fact that it did — and that everyone agrees it’s smart and uproariously funny — sends a signal to studios to invest in more female-led comedies. According to TheWrap.com, Universal Studios predicted “Bridesmaids” would only rake in dough in the low teens. Wrong! Maybe we could stop wondering if women are funny now? [The Wrap] Keep reading »
Starring Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Chris O’Dowd, Jon Hamm, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ellie Kempner
When Jon Hamm shirtless is not the best part of the movie, you know it’s a good one.
That’s my summary of “Bridesmaids” in one sentence.
But of course, there’s more to say… Keep reading »
