Korto Momolu, who placed second during season five of “Project Runway,” showed during New York Fashion Week for the first time since appearing on the competition show and launched an accessories collection for Dillard’s on the same day. Her fall 2010 collection featured statement coats, updated cowl necks, and beautiful knits. (See the collection here.) Korto says she began designing the impressive collection after Thanksgiving, which is late for most designers. Her accessories line for Dillard’s, which features jewelry and handbags, is as exciting as her clothing. I’m especially loving the Horn Handle Hobo Bag and the Twisted Hoop Earrings. Korto designs another jewelry line as well, The Saba Collection, which is a collaboration with Madera Exotic woods to produce eco-friendly polished wood jewelry. The wood she uses actually resembles stones. It seems her loss on “Project Runway” and sheer determination have propelled Korto to realize her dream fashion career.
