Oh, let me count all the ways I hate Kiernan Shipka. (And by hate I mean love.) She has a sense of humor. She’s got badass Chanel shoes. She wears capes. Her hair braid is freaking adorable. She makes her own clothes. She loves Helena Bonham Carter’s style. And she got to keep the wardrobe department’s backup pair of white go-go boots from that episode where Sally Draper bought some very ’60s shoes, because, duh, every 12-year-old needs a pair of white go-go boots. “Mad Men”‘s Kiernan Shipka Makes Her Own Clothes

So, aside from getting to play future-lesbian (we think, anyway) daughter Sally Draper on “Mad Men,” the extremely articulate and thoughtful Kiernan Shipka has a couple other tricks up her sleeve. The 11-year-old actress mostly dresses in vintage-y frocks from Portuguese designer Papo d’Anjo, but she also designs and wears her own bespoke creations, inspired by the swinging ’60s. Her wardrobe approach puts my Virgo perfectionism to shame. “I love organization, so I split my clothes into two closets according to seasons. Though I have to go to the guestroom to pull my fall and winter items, it’s still much easier than cramming all my clothes together in my one closet. I love ‘space’ in between hanging clothes.” Whoa, Kiernan, you’re kind of making me salivate with your intense organizational stylings. And check out her can’t-live-without list: “My dogs, Cole Haan boots, Mason Pearson hairbrush, headbands, and computer!” Cole Haan boots! We can’t even afford those. Preternaturally intelligent Kiernan Shipka, who plays Sally Draper on our fave show ever, “Mad Men,” was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly about the show and her role on it. Kiernan was frank about her feelings about TV mom Betty Draper. “As much as I don’t like Betty’s character,” she said, “January‘s amazing and I love watching Betty. But I hate Betty as a person. Quotable: Sally Draper Not Allowed To Watch “Mad Men”

“I’m not allowed to watch the show. My mom will tape it and then show me the scenes she feels are appropriate. [...] I’m very method when I’m on set. It’s just kind of thinking the thoughts of Sally, and I pretty much just become her. It’s a character that I’ve known for a really long time, so it’s pretty easy. [...] I don’t think she’s a bad kid at all. She’s going through a rough time. Don is absent and Betty has never once catered to Sally’s emotional needs, so I feel that they’re not the best parents.”

Kiernan Shipka, aka Sally Draper of “Mad Men,” is apparently really, really well spoken for a 10-year-old girl. When asked whether she would act like Sally if her parents were like Betty and Don, she said:

“I think Sally’s actually much better than I would be, given her situation. Sally is really, really reserved. Divorce can be terribly stressful and confusing. Add to that an emotionally unresponsive mother and a physically absent father, I think Sally’s actions are pretty tame. If I was experiencing Sally’s situation, I would be a complete terror of a kid.”
