Lifetime Already Planning “Flowers In The Attic” Sequel

Don't Do It, Sally Draper!

Lifetime’s TV movie adaptation of V.C. Andrews’ classic trashy read Flowers in the Attic has not even aired yet, but the network must be confident that incestuous romances are ratings gold, because they’re already planning to produce a sequel. Petals on the Wind is the second book in Andrews’ Dollanganger family series and follows the three remaining children after their escape from their evil grandmother’s attic and their mother’s attempts to poison them. Don’t worry! There’s still plenty of incestuous feelings, creepy old men, and a return to Foxworth Hall, as Cathy (Kiernan Shipka) plots to enact revenge against her mother and grandmother. I can only pray that every other pervert like me, who spent hours locked in their bedrooms, dog-earing the pages of V.C.’s books, actually tunes in for both these films, because I would personally love to see the third and fourth books adapted as well. And then the Casteel family series should be next! I could totally envision Lindsay Lohan as Heaven…

Anyway, “Flowers in the Attic” premiere January 18. Check out the extended trailer above! [Hollywood Reporter]

Style Stealer: Kiernan Shipka’s Got Flower Power

Style Stealer: Kiernan Shipka's Got Flower Power

Why yes, I am coveting a 14-year-old’s outfit, what of it? “Mad Men”‘s Kiernan Shipka is a total fashion plate and I refuse to pretend like this outfit isn’t totally stylish just because its wearer wasn’t even born the year I graduated from high school. Besides, my inner age is, like, totally 14. Fellow teenagers-in-spirit, get the details on how to steal this outfit, after the jump! Keep reading »

[UPDATE] OMG, The “Flowers In The Attic” Trailer Is Here

Don't Do It, Sally Draper!

[Update, 5:45p.m.: Damn, the trailer has been removed from the Internet!  Trust us, it was good.]  God bless Lifetime and their trashy, trashy movies. The trailer for the January 2014 remake of “Flowers In The Attic” is here and it’ll give you the heebies-jeebies in only the way a V.C. Andrews erotica about incestuous teenagers locked in an attic by their sadistic grandmother can. Lucky for us, the icky plot is leveled out with some real stars in the cast: “Mad Men”‘s Kiernan Shipka plays Cathy, the sister who falls in love with her brother, Heather Graham plays their troubled mother, and Ellen Burstyn is their psycho grandmother. This looks intense. You know we’re going to watch. [YouTube]

Kiernan Shipka Is A Riot Grrrl

Well, this photo sure does fill me with joy. Kiernan Shipka — best known as Sally Draper on “Mad Men” — may only be 13 years old, and thus not alive when riot grrrl was in its hey day, but its influence lives on. I wonder what she’s listening to on her iPod. Bikini Kill? L7? Hole? Bratmobile? Soooo many badass possibilities. [Photo: Fame/Flynet]

Update: Want Kiernan’s Riot Grrrl T-shirt for yourself? I found it!

Kiernan Shipka
It's A Mad, Mad, Mad Closet

Oh, let me count all the ways I hate Kiernan Shipka. (And by hate I mean love.) She has a sense of humor. She’s got badass Chanel shoes. She wears capes. Her hair braid is freaking adorable. She makes her own clothes. She loves Helena Bonham Carter’s style. And she got to keep the wardrobe department’s backup pair of white go-go boots from that episode where Sally Draper bought some very ’60s shoes, because, duh, every 12-year-old needs a pair of white go-go boots. Oh God and she’s on Twitter at @KiernanShipka. BRB, begging her to be my little sister. [YouTube]

Watch Video

It’s about 10 years too late to help Shia LaBeouf. But maybe Kiernan Shipka can still do some good in the wild and crazy world of child stars. She has certainly spent long enough in the child psychologist’s office on “Mad Men.” Most of the sessions in this Funny Or Die video are pretty cool, like the one with that chick who played Topanga on “Boy Meets World.” But does the Eden Wood cameo one freak anyone else out? It’s a little too eerie … [Funny Or Die] Keep reading »

“Mad Men”‘s Kiernan Shipka Makes Her Own Clothes

kiernan shipka photo

So, aside from getting to play future-lesbian (we think, anyway) daughter Sally Draper on “Mad Men,” the extremely articulate and thoughtful Kiernan Shipka has a couple other tricks up her sleeve. The 11-year-old actress mostly dresses in vintage-y frocks from Portuguese designer Papo d’Anjo, but she also designs and wears her own bespoke creations, inspired by the swinging ’60s. Her wardrobe approach puts my Virgo perfectionism to shame. “I love organization, so I split my clothes into two closets according to seasons. Though I have to go to the guestroom to pull my fall and winter items, it’s still much easier than cramming all my clothes together in my one closet. I love ‘space’ in between hanging clothes.” Whoa, Kiernan, you’re kind of making me salivate with your intense organizational stylings. And check out her can’t-live-without list: “My dogs, Cole Haan boots, Mason Pearson hairbrush, headbands, and computer!” Cole Haan boots! We can’t even afford those. Check out Kiernan in the adorable blue-and-white checked dress she made above. [The Coveteur] Keep reading »

Sally Draper Would Like To Punch Betty In The Face, Too

Preternaturally intelligent Kiernan Shipka, who plays Sally Draper on our fave show ever, “Mad Men,” was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly about the show and her role on it. Kiernan was frank about her feelings about TV mom Betty Draper. “As much as I don’t like Betty’s character,” she said, “January‘s amazing and I love watching Betty. But I hate Betty as a person. I sometimes I just wanna punch her in the face.” Us too, Kiernan. Us too. [Entertainment Weekly] Keep reading »

Quotable: Sally Draper Not Allowed To Watch “Mad Men”

“I’m not allowed to watch the show. My mom will tape it and then show me the scenes she feels are appropriate. [...] I’m very method when I’m on set. It’s just kind of thinking the thoughts of Sally, and I pretty much just become her. It’s a character that I’ve known for a really long time, so it’s pretty easy. [...] I don’t think she’s a bad kid at all. She’s going through a rough time. Don is absent and Betty has never once catered to Sally’s emotional needs, so I feel that they’re not the best parents.”

— Kiernan Shipka, the precocious young actress who plays Sally Draper, Betty and Don’s oldest child, on “Mad Men,” explains how she channels and connects to her character despite not being allowed to watch much of the show. Of Sally’s recent acting out, Kiernan also teases: “Believe it or not, there’s a lot more coming. You’re just gonna have to wait and see what it is.” Can’t wait! [via Huffington Post] Keep reading »

Sally Draper Is Really Smart And Plays Golf

Kiernan Shipka, aka Sally Draper of “Mad Men,” is apparently really, really well spoken for a 10-year-old girl. When asked whether she would act like Sally if her parents were like Betty and Don, she said:

“I think Sally’s actually much better than I would be, given her situation. Sally is really, really reserved. Divorce can be terribly stressful and confusing. Add to that an emotionally unresponsive mother and a physically absent father, I think Sally’s actions are pretty tame. If I was experiencing Sally’s situation, I would be a complete terror of a kid.”
