In case you haven’t heard, Kelly Clarkson has a new boyfriend (who just happens to be Reba McEntire’s stepson, Brandon Blackstock), and she’s also looking noticeably slimmer lately. Coincidence? She says no:

“I have a boyfriend, and if I’m being completely honest, no one likes to be not toned when you are dating someone. I’m eating better and working out, but I’ve always fluctuated within 20 pounds. I tone whenever I want, and I chose to now because my boyfriend and I are both really into it. But we don’t work out together. We did that once and I didn’t like huffing and puffing. I didn’t like looking all red and gross, so I don’t do that.”

This got me thinking about how our relationship status often affects our bodies and body image… Keep reading »

First Listen: Susan Justice’s Kanye/Kelly Clarkson Remix

Watch Video

Meet my new obsession, Susan Justice. She’s the singer/guitarist behind this awesome mashup of Kanye West’s “Stronger,” Kelly Clarkson’s single of the same name, and her own song, “Eat Dirt.”  Eat Dirt is also the name of her upcoming album, out on Capitol/Kite Records on March 26, which I will be buying and playing on repeat. But I’m also obsessed with Susan’s story: she grew up as a member of the religious sect The Family, and spent her childhood on the road with her parents and siblings, performing as street musicians in the U.S. and in Europe. But The Family banned members from experiencing many aspects of mainstream culture, including the music Susan secretly came to love. Finally, she ditched her family and The Family and struck out on her own, performing in the New York City subway. From there, her star rose. So cool. [Susan Justice]

Kelly Clarkson Is Not A Lesbian, She Just Hates Dating

“Man, I just keep going on horrible dates. I’m like, ‘There’s not enough wine in the world for me to enjoy this.’ … I actually had a guy say to me—and I hope he sees this because he is so ridiculous—he said, ‘I can’t believe I’m on a date with Kelly Clarkson.’ And under my breath I was like, ‘Wow, I can’t either.’ … Some days I think, ‘I’ll meet him. Everybody finds somebody,’ and other days I’m like, ‘Maybe I won’t. Maybe I just missed the memo.’”

Kelly Clarkson tells Parade why she’s single (and not a lesbian). God, can I relate to this. Especially the part about there not being enough wine in the world. You know it’s gonna be a bad date when you’ve inhaled your first glass in five minutes. I want to tell her she’ll find someone, but I can’t make any guarantees. [Daily Mail UK]

Let’s face it: keeping up with pop culture is difficult. With more than 1000 channels worth of TV shows, not to mention a new flood of movies and music every week, it’s practically a full-time job to keep up with everything. Luckily, it is our full-time job. So after the jump, your cheat sheet to the TV shows you need to watch, the albums you need to hear, and the movies you need to see. This week, we’ve got new albums from Coldplay and Kelly Clarkson, Justin Timberlake and Johnny Depp heating up the big screen, and a new reality show about horrific in-laws. Keep reading »

Kelly Clarkson’s “Einstein,” Plus Other Fuzzy Math In Pop Music

All morning I’ve been listening to Kelly Clarkson’s quite enjoyable new album, Stronger, and found myself laughing aloud at the lyrics to the song ”Einstein. Ahem:

Simple math
Our love divided by the square root of pride
Multiply your lifeless time
I’m going out of my mind
It was heaven when I finally figured it out alone…

Dumb plus dumb equals you
Dumb plus dumb equals you
Dumb plus dumb equals you

Indeed, there is no better way to tell a man to shove it than to diminish him with some lyrics containing some seriously fuzzy math. Dumb plus dumb equal you, BOO YA!

In honor of Kelly — and my favorite high school calculus teacher — here are some other bad math moments in music history.
