Nail art has been around for a long while, but only in the past year or so has it evolved from something you were more likely to see on your cool artsy friend into a ubiquitous trend spotted on everyone from Zooey Deschanel to Beyoncé. The $50 Minx manicure made popular by Katy Perry is more than we’d generally be willing to spend on something so temporary (and, um, tiny), but on the off chance you have $250,000 you’re looking to be really careless with, and you’ve already ruled out eating it, snorting things with it, and donating to the poor (!), why not make like Kelly Osbourne at the Emmys and cash in on the Azature black diamond manicure? (Yes, the same one that drove Winona to pack up her things and take off for Jupiter. We’ll never forgive you for that, Azature.) What, like that’s not a completely reasonable and responsible way to spend your money? Keep reading »
Katy Perry is no stranger to Crayola-colored hair, having long eschewed her natural blonde (!) for every which shade of the Manic Panic rainbow, but this is the first time we’ve seen the songstress looking so … fiery! The September cover of French fashion mag L’Officiel casts Katy in a warmer, more romantic light, offsetting the shock of copper hair with a pretty peach dress and subtle rosy makeup (I seriously hope she swapped numbers with the makeup artist from this shoot). It’s a solid departure from her usual over-the-top all-the-makeup-at-once fare, but would it be wrong for me to suggest that Katy looks really good channeling a touch of Florence Welch, orange hair and all? Obviously this outfit Katy Perry wore to see The xx is terrible. But I have a bit of a soft spot for it, because it reminds me so much of the clothes mid-’90s costume designers would put the nerdy hot girl in before she had her life-altering makeover scene. Like, I think Rachel Leigh Cook wore this exact outfit in “She’s All That,” right? So maybe we’ll call this kind of pretty-girl-trying-to-pose-as-dowdy thing “She’s All Thatting.” [Photo: Fame/Flynet]
In the immortal words of the late Amy Winehouse, what kind of fuckery is this? On Tuesday, we speculated that repeat style offender Katy Perry seemed to be getting her sartorial shit together but, um, do you think we might be able to backpedal a bit on that one? Granted, she’s just going to the airport in this heinous attire, but still. Her outfit looks like it was copped straight out of my wardrobe, age 12, circa Rebellious Stage, in an era where Ed Hardy was considered a good look. Oh, but that was probably never.
