Vintage flapper style has long been a fashion inspiration, especially with the promise of Baz Luhrman’s anachronistic, aesthetically thrilling “Gatsby” adaptation on our heels, but methinks Katy Perry may have taken the trend a bit too literally at last night’s City Of Hope gala. Her long, lacy silk slip is perfectly lovely, but the headpiece and haphazard pearls send the whole thing straight into Halloween costume territory. The silver mules are definitely retro, but not in a good way — they’re more bridge champion than pop star. Also, yin-yang nail art? Where is Katy trying to go with this? I’m confounded. Katy Perry told Ellen DeGeneres that her tour documentary “Part Of Me” is going to include the dissolution of her marriage from husband-of-14-months Russell Brand ”in the most tasteful way.” Katy said she’s commited to “breaking down the idea that to achieve your dream you always have to be perfect or flawless or live in some kind of fantasy world … we know we’re not perfect at all.” Half of me is thinking, Katy, girl, opening up the world to your breakup is not a good idea. But the other half of me appreciates Katy’s desire not to whitewash her life and sanitize it beyond PR-approved recognition. You know? [Guardian UK]
This past weekend, the stars aligned for the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. Adele and LMFAO were the big winners, but there were a lot of fashion knockouts on the red carpet. Let’s see what they wore, shall we?
Russell Brand is opening up from his split from Katy Perry after 14 months of marriage — and he’s got a surprisingly positive outlook on the whole divorce.
“I still love her as a human being,” Brand tells Ellen DeGeneres in a new interview airing today. “Sometimes when you’re in a relationship I suppose it doesn’t work out, does it? But that doesn’t mean I regret it or anything. I was very happy to be married with her. She’ s such a beautiful human being and I just have only love and positivity for her.” Click here to watch the interview!
Katy Perry is an unexpected addition to our Well Played list with a serious departure from her trademark candy-coated-crack styling. I’m kind of feeling the dark purple hair, and this Temperley London dress is just stunning on Katy, so much so that I’m even willing to forgive her inch-thick pancake makeup. A nude lip with this look would have pulled it together seamlessly. But I have to ask: what’s with the strap hanging off her shoulder? Girlfriend is practically begging for a wardrobe malfunction.

Katy Perry arrived at the Coachella music festival this weekend rocking a brand new hair color—a darker, richer, longer version of the blue hair she’s been sporting lately. Her hair stylist Rita Hazan tells Page Six, “Her new color is what I call purple velvet. It’s dark and rich. It’s very punk rock. I love creating colors for her because she always knows how to rock it.” Keep reading »
“I’m tired of being famous already! But I’m not tired of creating. Fame is, I think, just a disgusting by-product of what I do. It’s quite a delicate creature— it’s a wild animal of sorts. It can love you, and then it can attack you. I still want to be as approachable and relatable as possible—when I meet fans and they’re crying, I’ll say, ‘Calm down, there’s nothing to cry about. I’m not going to bite you or attack you or grant you three wishes. Let’s just hang out and have a good time.’”
– Katy Perry answers a question from Teen Vogue about whether or not she’ll ever get tired of being uber famous. Also, despite her amazing technicolor “I Dream Of Jeannie” meets My Little Pony hairdo, she is unable to grant you three wishes at this time. I’m not a huge fan of Katy, but after seeing the surprisingly touching trailer for her upcoming documentary and reading some recent interviews, I must say I’m impressed with her honesty. [Teen Vogue]
Katy Perry is still going through her blue period. The “Teenage Dream” pop star shared a while back that the inspiration for her blue hair was half Anna Wintour and half Kate Winslet in “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” However it seems even more clear what Perry was going for with the gorgeous blue and purple ponytail she rocked at the 25th annual Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards in Los Angeles this past weekend. Duh, it’s Tink-a-tink-a-too, the My Little Pony. Keep reading »
