It’s a concept only the dudes behind the giz hair gel scene in “There’s Something About Mary” could come up with. The Farrelly Brothers are hard at work on their latest flick—it’s untitled at the moment, but will be a collection of 17 short films. One of the films that started shooting this week has a pretty amazing cast—Hugh Jackman and Kate Winslet. The concept of the short? Hugh and Kate are out on a first date—so far, so normal. Only, Hugh’s character has testicles that are located on his chin. Yes, on his face. And no one seems to notice besides Kate’s character, who for some reason doesn’t run? It sounds pretty out-there, but everything Kate touches is gold in our opinion, so we’ll give it a chance. Other shorts in the movie will star Gerard Butler, Naomi Watts, and Justin Long. Kate Winslet’s best friend and two-time onscreen lover is helping her through her divorce from Sam Mendes. Leonardo DiCaprio and Winslet “were so young when Titanic came out, so it’s fair to say they basically grew up together, professionally at least,” a source tells the Sun. “Kate has always really adored Leo and feels like she can tell him anything,” the source continues. “He’s been a rock for her.” They last starred together in “Revolutionary Road” — right around the time Winslet’s marriage started going south. Yesterday, we were sad to hear that our dear Kate Winslet had split from her husband, director Sam Mendes, after six years together. Kate is currently vacationing in Mexico with her two adorable children, but when she gets back, she should probably start thinking about … finding someone new. The obvious choice—Leonardo DiCaprio. The two steamed up the screen in both “Titanic” and “Revolutionary Road,” which was ultra awkies since Mendes was directing their love scenes. It’s always seemed like these two have a special bond, not to mention they look pretty great together. If only Leo would break up with Bar Rafaeli!
Just in case Leo isn’t on the market anytime soon, here are some other ideas for who she should date next. Keep reading »
Ugh. I hate to say it, but we called it. Oscar winner Kate Winslet and her husband, director Sam Mendes, have announced that they’ve split. As you may recall, we hypothesized that a woman winning the Best Actress Oscar is almost certainly the kiss of death for her romantic relationship — Kate Winslet, who won for her work in “The Reader,” was the only example in recent years of this theory not proving true. Until now, that is. Sadz. Sometimes we hate it when we’re right. [LA Times] Keep reading »
According to a survey of 2,000 British women, Kate Winslet has the “Most Desired Body of the Decade.” This newfound title makes me giddy for a number of reasons—I’ve been a worshipper at the temple of Kate forever. Sure, her body is amazing and she’s obviously a goddess, but what I think makes her so amazing is her love and acceptance of herself. As a woman, especially a woman in Hollywood, that is no easy feat. Yet she has never waivered, which makes her a true role model. Kate is always comfortable in her skin, always at home in her body, always navigating gracefully through her life. No wonder many women want to be her. Keep reading »
“Kate Winslet gets all of the gritty roles. Understandably so—she is my idol and I just think she’s done it the right way. She is not only an amazing actress but she knows how to run her career and I respect her so much, but there’s got to be room for more women. I want more roles out there for women that have more colors and layers like men have.”
“I have wrinkles here [points to her forehead], which are very evident, and I will particularly say when I look at movie posters, ‘You guys have airbrushed my forehead. Please can you change it back?’ I’d rather be the woman they’re saying ‘She’s looking older’ about than ‘She’s looking stoned.’”
When I heard a few months ago that pop star Jessica Simpson was considering a reality TV show about “real beauty,” I was thrilled. Finally! A celeb who sought to use the negative press attention towards her and spin it a positive way! In the wake of the offensive tabloid lynch mob over Simpson’s “mom jeans” weight gain, taking the high road seemed like a classy thing to do.
The details of said show are finally out: in a docu-series called “The Price of Beauty” for VH1, Simpson will travel around the world speaking to women about the lengths they go to to achieve physical perfection, including their diets, clothes and beauty regimens.
It does sounds like a cool premise for a TV program. But when I read Jessica’s statement regarding her show, I came to my senses about just who the feel-good, body-positive “messenger” is. Keep reading »
“I had to grow the hair down there. But because of years of waxing, as all of us girls know, it doesn’t come back quite the way it used to. They even made me a merkin — a wig — because they were so concerned that I might not be able to grow enough.”
Kate Winslet is suing the Daily Mail over comments the paper printed about her exercise regime. This isn’t the first time she’s sued a publication about statements regarding her body image, and we bet it won’t be the last. Kate’s “curvy girl” shape and healthy attitude about eating and exercise are as important a part of her image as puffy lips are to Angelina Jolie.
In a suit she filed for nearly $300,000 in libel damages, Kate claims an article in the Daily Mail “injured her personal and professional reputation.” The suit stems from the paper’s retort to a quote Kate had given to Elle about how she stays in shape. In the magazine, she said, “I don’t go to the gym because I don’t have time, but I do Pilates workout DVDs for 20 minutes or more every day at home.” In “Should Kate Winslet Win an Oscar for the World’s Most Irritating Actress?”, writer Liz Jones doubted this was actually Kate’s exercise routine, and speculated that the star probably had to work out a lot more to maintain her figure.
