The Sundance Film Festival is the place for new movies to get initial buzz. For Michael Winterbottom’s film “The Killer Inside Me,” the reaction seems to be outrage. The film is an adaption of Jim Thompson’s 1952 novel of the same name, and offers a dark and cruel look inside the mind of a vicious serial killer who takes a sickening delight in torturing and murdering women. It’s an aspect of the book that Winterbottom gruesomely exploits on screen. The trailer/highlight reel shows footage of Jessica Alba‘s character getting violently whipped and later beaten by the murderer, played by Casey Affleck. A beating that viewers of the film have said not only leaves Alba’s character dead, but her jaw bone exposed. The rest of her face resembles “hamburger meat.” Kate Hudson’s character is also brutally attacked in the film in a similar display of violence that leaves her with a broken windpipe.

Mullets are likely the most ridiculed hairstyle in history, but their influence has been great. So great, in fact, that we’ve been seeing mullet-style skirts and dresses popping up all over lately. Kate Hudson alone wore two dresses with short-in-the-front, long-in-the-back hemlines to two “Nine” premieres. And labels like Wink, See by Chloé, and Versace have similarly asymmetrical styles; some look quirky while others are questionable. Do these dress styles live up to the mullet motto, “Business in front and party in the back”?

Recently, Kate Hudson has been using an interesting technique to avoid answering questions about Yankee third baseman Alex Rodriguez: she laughs. We’re not sure when Kate Hudson‘s episode of “Inside the Actor’s Studio” was taped, but we’re guessing it was before rumors started began swirling that she and Alex had split. In the above clip from tonight’s episode, host James Lipton asks her about A-Rod, and she giggles, saying, “It was a wonderful summer, a great, great, great fall.”

For the November issue of Vogue, Anna and Co. rounded up the female stars of the upcoming movie musical “Nine.” Four of them—Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, and Kate Hudson—are on the cover together, but the overly airbrushed shot makes it oh-so-obvious that photographer Annie Liebovitz shot them separately and spliced them together in Photoshop.
