If you’ve seen “The Face,” then you already know that former Victoria’s Secret Angel Karolina Kurkova is, like, the coolest. (Naomi Campbell, on the other hand? Not the coolest. But she’s Naomi Campbell, so there’s that.) The model and mom seems ridiculously down-to-earth and relatable, aside from being, you know, one of the most famous faces in the world. Oh, and she doesn’t have a bellybutton. Anyway! I loooove this casual-meets-chic look, and although some of these pieces are pretty unique, it’s easy to recreate a similar look on the cheap. I’ll show you how… Keep reading »
The Tribeca Film Festival began with a bang last night with its star-studded Vanity Fair kick-off gala. Countless familiar New York City names were spotted at the annual event, from the festival’s founder Robert De Niro to “socialite” and headband-wearer Arden Wohl. This is New York City, after all, so naturally many of the partygoers were in head-to-toe black looks. Adorably preggers Evan Rachel Wood was radiant in a flattering black halter dress, and Sienna Miller looked rad in a short black-on-black floral frock that showcased her killer shoes. Both Karolina Kurkova and Rachel Roy chose pantsuit looks for the occasion, and Whoopi Goldberg looked like the awesomest good witch/cool aunt ever in her trademark Cool Flowy Black Thing. (I love Whoopi.) So! Who do you think wore black better at the Vanity Fair party? It’s a tough call, right?
Did you watch modeling competition “The Face”? I have a couple of episodes to catch up on — so don’t tell me who won! — but it’s so much fun to watch — mainly because Naomi Campbell is a bit batcrackers, and fellow judges/coaches Coco Rocha and Karolina Kurkova play such good straight women to Campbell’s attendant rage problems. Anyway! I like this layered look from Kurkova. She’s channeling a bit of a witchy vibe, especially with those what-look-like Rick Owens boots and brimmed hat. Best of all, despite her being a supermodel, I feel like regular ladies could pull of this look, too. [Photo: Pacific Coast News]
Have you been watching “The Face”? If not, check it out. It’s a modeling competition, yes, but unlike any others out there. Each contestant is paired with a mentor — Karolina Kurkova, Coco Rocha or Naomi Campbell — and competes against models on the other mentor’s teams. The challenges are real world and the products, stylists and brands the girls work with are first rate, unlike some (ahem) other, jankier reality TV model competitions.
So far in the season, the group of 12 girls has been whittled down to six — Stephanie, Margaux, Jocelyn, Zi Lin, Ebony and Devyn. The Frisky was lucky enough to speak with Jocelyn of Team Naomi, Stephanie of Team Coco and Ebony of Team Karolina, and while they wouldn’t answer questions about Naomi’s temper tantrums, (which really says it all, eh?), they did give us the scoop on challenges, eliminations — and what Nigel Barker really smells like.
And don’t forget to catch “The Face,” Tuesday nights at 9/8 c on Oxygen.

If you, like us, have been feeling like the latter seasons of “America’s Next Top Model” have been a little gimmicky and lackluster, well, we’ve got a new show for you — one with three times the Tyra Banks star power. “The Face” is a modeling competition show, but unlike “ANTM,” the models will be split into teams, coached and trained by supermodels Naomi Campbell, Coca Rocha or Karolina Kurkova. Plus, it’s hosted by Noted Fashion Photographer (and baby seal enthusiast) Nigel Barker, so what’s not to love? In any case, Naomi, Nigel and the gang premiere tonight at 10/9 c on Oxygen. We’ll be watching/gawking.
Admit it: “America’s Next Top Model” has gotten stale over the last five zillion “cycles.” As much as we love Tyra there’s only so much of her histrionics and ridiculous, over-the-top photoshoots (Be a bear! Pose with a tarantula! In the snow!) we can take. And the Oxygen network is banking on that, by introducing its new modeling reality show, “The Face.” Hosted by “ANTM” castoff Nigel Barker, and featuring Tyra Banks’ evil cousin Naomi Campbell, plus modelstars Karolina Kurkova, and Coco Rocha, “The Face” has 24 contestants competing to become the new face of Ulta beauty. Models! Not only are they superhumanly coltish and beautiful, but they also have impeccable street style, probably due in part to all of the amazing (and often free) clothes they’re constantly surrounded by. I’m pretty sure they’re all like this, because I have never seen nor heard of an off-duty fashion model looking less than, like, exponentially better than me on my best day ever. It helps that many of them have somewhat of a uniform, and that uniform is black: painted-on skinny jeans, cool combat boots, a breezy tank top or sweater and some kickass jacket. Karolina Kurkova is a gorgeous non-exception to the rule who gets all glitz and glamour on the red carpet and then classic New York City cool in her downtime. (Also, she doesn’t have a bellybutton.) I love how she looks comfortable and ready to trek anywhere (let’s face it, a chauffeured Town Car is probably following her just in case her feet get tired in those Isabel Marant wedge sneakers). While there are most definitely some lofty names attached to this seemingly careless outfit, it’s easy enough to achieve without the supermodel price tag. Let’s do it! Keep reading »
Czech glamazon Karolina Kurkova was showing off a preggers glow at the 10th Annual New Yorkers For Children Gala. Nothing says “think of the children” quite like sexing up your baby bump with red spandex. [New York City, 9/23/09]

Last month we asked if you thought Karolina Kurkova, the Victoria’s Secret model under fire for gaining weight, was fat. Kurkova wasn’t even included in pre-show materials for the 2008 Victoria’s Secret fashion show because it was a last minute decision to let her strut the runway. After snacking on pretty much nothing but veggies and “green juice,” she managed to lose enough weight to be included. “She really porked out,” a woman at the show was overheard whispering. “It’s good she dropped a little bit of weight, but really … ” Keep reading »
