It’s been nearly a month since we heard new and glamorous details about the life of Choupette, a “famous beauty” who is Karl Lagerfeld’s kitten. Herr Karl spoke with the Independent UK and revealed more details about his finicky princess. Much like Karl himself (I imagine), Choupette is “moody,” he says. “Choupette waits for me at the front door. She doesn’t like being alone.” How she manages to be alone with three maids tending to her needs, I don’t know. Choupette also goes to the vet every 10 days for checkups but the maids bring her because Karl “doesn’t want her to be furious at me.” Keep reading »

Choupette is suspiciously absent...

Well, that was quick! A little over a month ago, my personal Jesus, Karl Lagerfeld, announced plans to consummate the love that we’ve always known existed between him and Japanese beauty brand Shu Uemura. Karl’s been known to use Shu products in an unorthodox way: rather than sketch out his sublime designs for Chanel in pencil or pen, Karl prefers to draw with Shu products for their endless array of vivid colors. The man behind the international makeup mecca, who was a personal friend of Lagerfeld, passed away in 2007, and that ended the brand’s retail in the States. Which is yet another reason to skip the store and take to the Internet for your makeup needs (particularly, the Shu Uemura e-store). Karl Lagerfeld partnered with Shu Uemura to create his limited-edition “Noël 2012″ line, and in light of the fated partnership, Karl appropriately synthesized “Japanese pop with European chic” to birth Mon Shu Girl, the adorable cartoon character he’s chosen as the face of his cosmetics debut. She’s no Choupette, of course, but we’ll take her! [Racked]

Karl Lagerfeld vs. Martha Stewart: who is the stranger pet owner? It’s a tough call. On one hand, we have Karl, whose Siamese cat (Choupette!) inspired a Chanel couture collection and has two personal maids who keep a diary on her behalf. On the other, we have Martha, who named her kittens Emperor Ch’in (after the Chinese ruler) and Kublai Khan (after the heir to the Mongolian empire), and also owns a Chow Chow named Ghenghis Khan. Oh, wait! Martha definitely wins, and here’s why:

“As with all my new pets, I gently bit each kitten on the face. This is how I let my animals know that I am now their mother.”

There you go. [The Martha Blog via Dlisted]

Choupette Lagerfeld is my literal spirit animal in that she is, in fact, an animal, and also happens to really speak to my spirit, so there you have it. Just when I thought the gloriousness quotient of Karl’s legendary Siamese had finally been capped due to overload, what with recent reports of a photoshoot and eponymous purse, I could not have been more wrong. It turns out that the influence of le chaton on the Kaiser’s design sense does not only not draw the line at soft, fluffy bags, but an entire collection Karl kreated for Chanel was inspired by Choupette’s eyes. And who spilled the beans on the true blue roots of the Spring/Summer 2012 couture collection but Karl’s friend and neighbor Diane Kruger? One more for my extensive list of reasons why I would beyond happily trade lives with the German actress (we’ll call it #2, before Joshua Jackson and after the fact that she is one of the most beautiful people alive): she… has touched… Choupette. Even though she was probably made to wear white silk gloves whilst doing so. [Fashionista]

There’s a good chance that I am turning into a weird, babbling robot only capable of spewing out meaningless phrases like “Choupette,” “pretty cat,” and simply “meow.” For example, when I learned this morning of the Chanel cat’s big break, the noise I made could only be likened to a battle cry of sorts. That’s right: famous beauty Choupette Lagerfeld will make her modeling debut in a spread for V magazine (to which her designer dad is a frequent contributor) alongside sexy French super Laetitia Casta. With her stunning Siamese features, natural posing skills, and expertise with an iPad, Choupette really is the total package. Beauty and brains — she’s so dynamic! I just hope she doesn’t get too thin. [Fashionista]

I used to think I was the craziest cat lover alive, but Karl Lagerfeld is giving me a serious run for my money. The Chanel designer, exalted for his stern, stubborn approach to fashion, diet, not getting massages, and basically everything else ever, has been a bit more subdued since he acquired the famously beautiful Choupette this past Christmas. As anyone who has ever loved a cat will understand, he’s head over heels for his Siamese lady, even going so far as to assure her well-being in his absence with two personal maids and an ongoing diary of her daily activities. (I also presume she can read, but only in French.) If Karl hasn’t broadcasted his affection sufficiently enough, rest assured — as reported by Cathy Horyn of the New York Times, the Choupette handbag is on the horizon. The longtime fashion critic tweeted live yesterday from Chanel’s Paris headquarters, describing the purse as “knitted” and “soft.” I don’t expect to be getting my paws on the bag (or the cat, for that matter) any time soon, but you know when that thing comes out in stores I will be petting it on the shelf. Prrrrr. Choupette. [Refinery29]

I know, I talk about Karl Lagerfeld all day long, but it’s so hard not to when he can’t stop, won’t stop saying and doing things that baffle, offend, and inspire, often all at once. It’s safe to say that you can file this next Karl update under something that’s legitimately newsworthy, and not just me being like, “look, everybody, he wore a mankini one time!” (though I maintain that said mankini-wearing is also legitimately newsworthy). Karl has long specified that rather than sketch out his illustrious designs in pen or a freshly sharpened No. 2, like any mere mortal might, he prefers to use eyeshadows and liners by Shu Uemura because of their myriad colors. Given the very personal connection that Lagerfeld has with the brand, a natural (still, terribly exciting) extension has come of their relationship: the Chanel designer has created and curated a one-off holiday cosmetics collection, eponymously dubbed Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura. The 17-piece line will be available internationally online (the Japanese beauty manufacturer devastatingly ceased U.S. brick and mortar-based retail a few years back) beginning in November, at which time I will already have ordered all of the limited-edition products en masse. Sorry, guys. [Fashionista]

This morning we were delighted to learn more about our favorite celebrity kitten, Choupette. The fluffy Siamese kitten is the kept woman of eccentric Chanel fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. Herr Karl revealed recently that Choupette takes her dinner on top of the table, plays with an iPad, and “has two personal maids, for both day and night.” You know, as you do, cats.

But Karl’s most intriguing reveal about Choupette’s lifestyle is the way her young life is being painstakingly chronicled. When her daddy is traveling, details of Choupette’s day are kept in a notebook for him to review later. “When I am not there, the maids take down, in little books, everything she did, from what she ate, to how she behaved, if she was tired, and if she wasn’t sleeping,” Karl explained. “In the nine months, we already have almost 600 pages.”

And wouldn’t you know, we were able to get our hands on a page from Choupette the kitten’s diary. Imagine you’re reading it in a highly pitched, feminine Austrian accent … punctuated by occasional crotch licking. Keep reading »

Everyone I know is probably sick to death of hearing me talk about Karl Lagerfeld, because he is a bastard, but who could ever get tired of hearing about his Siamese cat, Choupette? Not us. Especially when he goes on at length in interviews about how spoiled she is. WWD sought out Karl at the premiere of his “Little Black Jacket” exhibit in NYC, and while his responses to inquiries about Chanel and politics were succinct in typical Karl fashion, the design superstar couldn’t stop gushing about his feline friend. I would even go so far as to say she might be his daughter. Behold:

“She is a famous beauty. She is nine months old. [Model] Baptiste [Giaconi] gave her to me for Christmas to watch for two weeks when he was away but then I refused to give her back. I thought she was too cute. She is like a kept woman. She has a strong personality. She has lunch and dinner with me on the table, with her own food. She doesn’t touch my food. She doesn’t want to eat on the floor. She sleeps under a pillow and she even knows how to use an iPad. She has two personal maids, for both night and day. She is beyond spoiled. … When I am not there, the maids take down, in little books, everything she did, from what she ate, to how she behaved, if she was tired, and if she wasn’t sleeping. In the nine months, we already have almost 600 pages.”

Are you a serious bookworm? Do you find the scent of the printed page borderline orgasmic? Are regular perfumes not quite paper-y enough for you? Sounds like you might want to check out Paper Passion, a new fragrance that smells like–you guessed it–books. Created by a master perfumer in collaboration with Wallpaper magazine, with packaging designed by Karl Lagerfeld (naturally!), Paper Passion is “an opportunity to celebrate all the glorious sensuality of books, at a time when many in the industry are turning against them.” One bottle will set you back $115, but when you consider all the awesome book nerds you’ll attract with every spritz, it seems a small price to pay.
