“Kanye called me an incredible person and I take that as an apology. And if it was an apology, I forgive him for being an asshole. I don’t hate him.

A lot of it is just negativity and I don’t like to bring that energy into my life. But I did look at it and he said that, he said um, ‘When I said that I didn’t like your dress, I was an asshole. When I said that I didn’t like your hair, I was an a**hole.’

Occupy Wall Street got its biggest — if briefest — celeb occupier on Monday when Kanye West showed up at Liberty Square/Zuccotti Park in Lower Manhattan and pow-wowed with Russell Simmons. Simmons was there showing his support for the movement, and while Kanye has yet to say what he thought of his time among the eclectic community of occupiers, Simmons had this to say:

“It was amazing to see how people loved seeing Kanye West at Occupy Wall Street. His music and his art has always been about the voice and the power of the people. Kanye just wanted to come down and experience the growing movement that has opened the eyes of many around this country and around the world of the struggles of poor people. The energy at Liberty Plaza was electrifying and the momentum to get the money out of politics is growing quickly.”

If Kanye’s interest is genuine, awesome, but I hope reports that he wore a gold grill for the visit are untrue. A Givenchy shirt is one thing, but a gold grill is just so … how should I put this? … one percent. [Global Grind, Village Voice]

The hype surrounding Kanye West’s debut women’s fashion line, DW, was on overdrive this past weekend, as the rapper-turned-designer presented his first collection during Paris Fashion Week. Of course it was a star-studded affair, and fashion heavy-hitters like Anna Wintour, Robin Givhan, and Carine Roitfeld were in attendance. Kanye consulted on the collection with other fashion insiders, including Central Saint Martins professor and British fashion guru Louise Wilson, who taught Alexander McQueen, Giles Deacon, and many other famous designers.

Although Kanye put in a lot of work and preparation on DW, it still falls flat … or should I say heavy … to me. Some fashion editors and critics were polite enough to say that he made a valiant first attempt and the line is a work in progress. But others weren’t too shy or awestruck by Mr. West as to basically call DW a knock-off. Keep reading »

Two students at the University of Sydney (yes, that’s in Australia, people) are staging “Kanye: The Musical.” The hour-long piece premieres on September 5th and will follow Kanye West‘s rise from a beat writer for Jay-Z to becoming his Watch the Throne collaborator, with more than a few slips along the way. “I’m a big Kanye fan,” Phillip Roser said of his new show, in which he will play Kanye himself. Other characters include Kanye’s mom, Marc Jacobs, and “Spooky Dracula.” “I thought that a musical in his honor would be a lot of fun to put on. I really just meant the show to be something fun for my friends to see and I’m pretty excited by all the attention it’s been getting.” I predict that when Kanye gets wind of this, he’ll want to make a million few revisions. Adele‘s “Melt My Heart To Stone” is one of those breakup songs that just tugs at your heartstrings. But the new Kanye West remix really takes the edge off. It’s not as good as his Katy Perry remix of “E.T.,” probably because there’s no lyrics like “Imma disrobe ya, then Imma probe ya.” Keep up the remixes of female pop stars, Kanye! Today’s Lady News: MTV & VH1 Won’t Air Kanye’s “Monster” Video

  • Both MTV and VH1 agreed not to air Kanye West’s music video for “Monster,” which grotesquely eroticizes dead women, despite a new disclaimer about how it isn’t meant to be “misogynist.” I am sure he will find a way to write a song about how he’s been victimized by this. [Adios Barbie]
  • North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue vetoed an awful anti-abortion bill which would have required a woman seeking an abortion to wait 24 hours, receive counseling, and get an ultrasound before she could have the procedure. (Thanks, commenter LR52185, for the link.) [News-Observer]
  • Christine Lagarde, the finance minister of France, was selected to be the first-ever woman to run the International Monetary Fund today. Down With Martini Glasses!

I love martinis—stirred, not shaken—with olives, please! Something about the drink is so tangy and, boy, does it do the trick fast. But as much as I enjoy martinis, I almost never order them. Why? Because I have a vendetta against martini glasses. I mean, glasses are supposed to contain liquid, right? So why has one been designed with angled sides that allows for maximum sloshing with the simplest of movements? Whenever I have a martini glass in my hand, I end up cupping the cone in my palm and hanging on for dear life. Sometimes, I swear I don’t absorb the conversations I’m having because I’m so focused on not spilling. And usually, I do anyway.
