Why is Julia Roberts The Most Beautiful Person In The World, AGAIN?

Picking the men and women for People‘s annual “Most Beautiful Issue” has to be a fun a job—I wonder what exactly constitutes research? But I’ve always wondered how they choose the MOST, MOST beautiful person out of all of the residents of Beautiful-land. My personal theory is that they pick whoever is willing to give them the longest interview and if that is true, Julia Roberts must sure like to blab. Today, the annual issue was released, and she has been chosen the beautifulest for the fourth time. (I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that the photo above was probably envisioned as the full cover, but was bumped to a small size because of Sandra Bullock’s bombshell adoption news.) Julia graced the cover as the most beautiful back in 1991, 2000 and 2005 and she’s also made the list a whopping 12 times. Obviously, Julia is gorgeous and I do think it’s cool that the magazine broke its 20-something woman or 40-something guy rut by choosing a 42-year old lady for top honors. But still, it shows a serious lack of creativity.

Personally, I think they should have run with Sandra Bullock and killed two birds with one stone—they could’ve easily added her to the Most Beautiful People spread, and also gotten the extra mileage of dynamite news story and that adorable baby photo. Who would you have cast to open the “Beautiful People” package? Keep reading »

OK, Now We’re Excited For “Eat Pray Love,” Starring Julia Roberts

Check out the first trailer for “Eat Pray Love,” based on Elizabeth Gilbert‘s book. While I usually dislike movies made from books, I must admit: I think it looks pretty darn good. The cast includes plenty of eye candy (James Franco, Javier Bardem, Billy Crudup), and this could be one of Julia Roberts‘ best roles. (I also appreciated hearing Florence & the Machine’s song “Dog Days Are Over” in the background.) Keep reading »

Stick A Cork In It, Julia Roberts!

I need to get something off my chest. I cannot stand Julia Roberts and her appearance at the Golden Globes last night only fed my raging fire of loathing. For some inexplicable reason, the nominee (for “Duplicity,” which no one saw) had the honor of giving away the award for “Best Picture Drama” and, as I should have expected, she used the opportunity to focus on herself. “Finn, Hazel, and Henry go to bed,” she cooed into the camera. Hey, guess what, Jules? That would have been cute if you were at the mic because you won an award, but guess what? You didn’t, so stick to the script. (Did I mention she was wearing a wholly inappropriate short, black dress that seemed better suited for the office?) The moment was reminiscent of the time a few years ago, when Roberts was tasked with giving away the Best Actor trophy at the Academy Awards and, upon seeing who won (Denzel Washington), made sure to crow, “I love my life!” No. One. Cares. Now go make a movie worth seeing, dork. (The only person who was more annoying than Roberts was James Cameron himself, who reminded us, 11 years after that whole “I’m the king of the world!” acceptance speech, that he is a mega douche.) Star Couplings: Kendra Wilkinson Will Soon Have Offspring

  • Kendra Wilkinson told E! that she is expecting a baby with fiance Hank Baskett. [Dlisted] — Okay, so they’re getting married June 27, and I’m guessing practicing birth control was lost in the details of planning their wedding.
  • A rep for Kanye West confirmed that Kanye and Amber Rose are done. [NY Post] — C’mon, did we really believe they were together? She got her 15 minutes of fame, and he rented a girlfriend.
  • It’s official, Britney Spears is dating her agent, Jason Trawick, and he plans to take his sweetie to a “private location” after the tour. [TMZ] — Papa Spears the matchmaker is successful.

Is Julia Roberts Too Old To Draw Moviegoers?

The Julia Roberts-Clive Ownes movie “Duplicity” comes to theaters today, and all anyone seems to be talking about is Roberts’ comeback. Since getting married to cameraman Danny Moder in 2002, Roberts has graced the big screen, but not in a lead role. In “Is Julia Roberts’s Box-Office Reign Over?” Newsweek considers whether the ’90s superstar will be able to keep up with the likes of Judd Apatow and friends at the box office. Time also looks at Roberts’ career and the choices she has made, saying, “If you’re nostalgic for the pretty woman in pink-and-black spandex, too bad. Roberts isn’t shoehorning herself back into a prostitute’s work outfit. She’s too sensible to even try.” E Online crunched numbers on career box-office performances of 10 lead actresses and 10 lead actors who turned 40 in the last decade. Sadly, they discovered that only the films of two actresses — Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Aniston — have grossed above their career averages after 40. For men, the opposite was true; only two of the 10 actors considered grossed less after turning 40 (Keanu Reeves and Will Smith).

Celebrities’ Unshaven Armpit Hair Over The Years

Armpit hair is a part of all of our lives, however annoying it may be. Most of us choose to get rid of it by regularly shaving our underarms, but, you know, sometimes we forget. Luckily, shaving only slips our mind in the winter when we’re wearing long sleeves and it doesn’t matter as much. Celebrities who have premieres to attend in strapless dresses aren’t as fortunate — and things have gotten worse for them over the years. It used to be that the press only made a big deal about armpit hair if it was European-style long. But now, with fancy cameras and Photoshop, we can tell when someone has even a tiny bit of stubble. Are these celebs purposefully showing up hairy, or was it accidental? You decide. Keep reading »

Julia & Kiefer: Back Together

Back in 1991, Julia Roberts jilted her fiance Kiefer Sutherland days before their wedding and ran off to Europe with his (now ex) best friend Jason Patric. Waaaay harsh, but Kiefer did cheat on her with a stripper. Despite the bad blood, they’ve managed to forgive each other and stay friends. Now, almost 20 years later, for the first time since they co-starred in Flatliners, the movie set they met on, it’s rumored they’ll work together again. Julia is reportedly stepping into the small screen and making a cameo on Kiefer’s successful show, 24, next season. Cool, but why would an Academy Award winning movie star take a bit part on a TV show? Sounds like more than gun sparks are going to fly on the secret agent show! [Remote Access] Keep reading »

Haven’t We Seen This Chick Flick Before?

One movie The Frisky will not be reviewing in our “We See Chick Flicks” column? Made Of Honor. Why? Because you’ve already seen it. It was released in 1997, under a different title, My Best Friend’s Wedding, and it starred Julia Roberts, not Patrick Dempsey. It was a terrible movie. Pretty sure this new version is going to be just as bad. Keep reading »
