The Julia Roberts-Clive Ownes movie “Duplicity” comes to theaters today, and all anyone seems to be talking about is Roberts’ comeback. Since getting married to cameraman Danny Moder in 2002, Roberts has graced the big screen, but not in a lead role. In “Is Julia Roberts’s Box-Office Reign Over?” Newsweek considers whether the ‘90s superstar will be able to keep up with the likes of Judd Apatow and friends at the box office. Time also looks at Roberts’ career and the choices she has made, saying, “If you’re nostalgic for the pretty woman in pink-and-black spandex, too bad. Roberts isn’t shoehorning herself back into a prostitute’s work outfit. She’s too sensible to even try.” E Online crunched numbers on career box-office performances of 10 lead actresses and 10 lead actors who turned 40 in the last decade. Sadly, they discovered that only the films of two actresses—Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Aniston—have grossed above their career averages after 40. For men, the opposite was true; only two of the 10 actors considered grossed less after turning 40 (Keanu Reeves and Will Smith).
Armpit hair is a part of all of our lives, however annoying it may be. Most of us choose to get rid of it by regularly shaving our underarms, but, you know, sometimes we forget. Luckily, shaving only slips our mind in the winter when we’re wearing long sleeves and it doesn’t matter as much. Celebrities who have premieres to attend in strapless dresses aren’t as fortunate—and things have gotten worse for them over the years. It used to be that the press only made a big deal about armpit hair if it was European-style long. But now, with fancy cameras and Photoshop, we can tell when someone has even a tiny bit of stubble. Are these celebs purposefully showing up hairy, or was it accidental? You decide.
Back in 1991, Julia Roberts jilted her fiance Kiefer Sutherland days before their wedding and ran off to Europe with his (now ex) best friend Jason Patric. Waaaay harsh, but Kiefer did cheat on her with a stripper. Despite the bad blood, they’ve managed to forgive each other and stay friends. Now, almost 20 years later, for the first time since they co-starred in Flatliners, the movie set they met on, it’s rumored they’ll work together again. Julia is reportedly stepping into the small screen and making a cameo on Kiefer’s successful show, 24, next season. Cool, but why would an Academy Award winning movie star take a bit part on a TV show? Sounds like more than gun sparks are going to fly on the secret agent show! [Remote Access]
One movie The Frisky will not be reviewing in our “We See Chick Flicks” column? Made Of Honor. Why? Because you’ve already seen it. It was released in 1997, under a different title, My Best Friend’s Wedding, and it starred Julia Roberts, not Patrick Dempsey. It was a terrible movie. Pretty sure this new version is going to be just as bad.
