Jonathan Saunders was chosen as this year’s BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund winner, and will receive £200,000 cash prize. He’ll also be able to take advantage of top tier mentoring opportunities — not that he’ll need it. Saunders’ designs are already worn by the likes of Madonna, Sarah Jessica Parker and Michelle Obama.
Saunders beat out Peter Pilotto, Mary Katrantzou, Richard Nicoll, Roksanda llincic, Marios Schwab, Zoe Jordan and Meadham Kirchhoff, as well as footwear label Nicholas Kirkwood for the award. And since he’s the BFA’s big winner, we figure we’ll be hearing a whole lot more from him. So we thought we’d give you a few tiny tidbits about this up and coming designer. Check out your new fashion overlord.
It designer Jonathan Saunders’s collection for Topshop hits stores today. It’s a very limited line with a handful of T-shirts and denim creations and we love. But is it just us or does this particular patchwork denim corset/skirt combo look vaguely reminiscent of Britney and Justin’s famous matching denim formal wear from 2001? Saunders would probably deny such a link, and says his inspiration comes from elsewhere: “My collection for Topshop this season has been inspired by sportswear and workwear, as well as the bold and graphic shapes of the Memphis movement. It’s perfect for urban city dwellers.”
Still, we kind of see it—do you? Get a look at the rest of the collection after the jump! Keep reading »
