Jon Stewart’s latest crusade: picking apart the right-leaning backlash stemming from Defense Secretary Leon Panetta’s decision to allow women to serve in combat roles. A former U.S. Marine penned a piece in the Wall Street Journal [second item] fretting that in combat soldiers often have to urinate and defecate in front of each other — often in close proximity to a fellow soldier’s face. Stewart points out: In a war zone, are you really worried about “dying from embarrassment?” Keep reading »
Once upon a time, Kristen Schaal from “The Daily Show” was a selfish single woman just like me, only caring about where her next free “whore pills” came from. But just as conservative pundits say, once she became a married woman, Schaal suddenly cared about the future of this country. You know, like a married lady does. Here is Schaal on why that ring around her finger made her throw support behind Mitt Romney. [The Daily Show]
Last night, Jon Stewart went easy on Robert Pattinson, whose appearance on “The Daily Show” was his first since his ‘Twilight” co-star/girlfriend, Kristen Stewart, was busted publicly cheating on him with director Rupert Sanders. Jokingly (but sweetly) offering him a pint of Ben & Jerry’s, Stewart said that for young people, breaking up sometimes feels “like the would is ending … this is the first time I’ve seen the world react that way.” An awkward situation, graciously handled by both fellows. Clip above!
It’s no secret that Huffington Post has some pretty ridic sections on its voluminous site. The idea behind the massive conglomeration of categories is to cover and “win” as many kinds of content on the web. We get that. But yesterday, after Jon Stewart made fun of all the sideboob on HuffPo on “The Daily Show”, the site countered by mocking up a whole sideboob section on the site. It’s all too real, don’t you think? What’s next? A dick pic section?
Jon Stewart took on Rush Limbaugh’s “slut” slur on last night’s show and put it best, as always: “Personally, I don’t get too worked up by the things Rush Limbaugh says because he is, and has been for many years, a terrible person.” This is so amazing, I have nothing better to say than put your headphones on and watch it. [The Daily Show]
Last night on “The Daily Show,” Jon Stewart was freaking hilarious in his coverage of last week’s anti-birth control sausagefest in Congress, in which a panel of all dudes tried to argue against President Obama’s health care reform compromise. Did you know these men mentioned “spiritual rape,” whatever that is, and Josef Stalin? When you have to invoke Stalin (or Hitler, or Mussolini, although let’s be honest, no one invokes Mussolini) into an argument to get people on board, you know you’re reaching. [The Daily Show]
Sean Hannity from Fox News had a whole bunch of dudes — white dudes, black dudes, all dudes — stop by for a big ol’ sausage-fest discussion of the birth control debate. Comparisons between health care reform to getting taken over by the Nazis? Oh, yeah, somebody went there.
Jon Stewart’s response is on point, as usual: “You’ve confused the ‘war on your religion’ with not getting everything you want.” (Geez, this is almost painful to watch.) [The Daily Show]
Jon Stewart ripped into Mitt Romney’s tax return last night, and Elizabeth Warren showed up later to hammer home the point. “How can you justify making more in one day than the median American family makes in a year, while paying an effective tax rate of the guy who has to scan your shoes at the airport?” Stewart asked incredulously. Sure, as Romney pointed out, we might not want a candidate “who pays more taxes than he owes,” Stewart agreed. “No, but we might want one who thinks that’s wrong.” Added Warren later in the show, “Washington now works for those who can hire an army of lobbyists.” She pointed, to a booing audience, to a recent study showing the US’ top 30 corporations spend more on lobbying than their tax bill. “That is the investment, and that is what they see as the future.” Read more…
Everyone in the media has been scratching their heads on how to write about Rep. Michele Bachmann‘s bigotry towards gays and her husband Marcus Bachmann’s work “treating” gays in so-called “ex-gay therapy.” He apparently said gay people are “barbarians” that need to be “educated” and “disciplined.” Do we report this as straight news? Blow a gasket over how cruel and dehumanizing they are? Even Jon Stewart struggled with how to report on Marcus Bachmann on last night’s episode of “The Daily Show.” That’s when Jerry Seinfeld came to the rescue and prescribed a spoonful of “ex-comic therapy.”
