Dior designer John Galliano’s been making headlines this week, and his designs (for once) haven’t been what everyone’s buzzing about.
The Guardian reports that Galliano was arrested in Paris for “alleged assault and making anti-Semitic remarks after a late-night drinking session.”
Multiple news agencies including the BBC and The New York Times subsequently reported that he has been suspended by Dior pending an inquiry into the allegations. Read more… Keep reading »

At the John Galliano menswear show in Paris, male models walked in fashions inspired by Charlie Chaplin. The drop crotch pants that come out at the beginning look especially perfect for the man with the extra long package — or interested in resurrecting the MC Hammer effect. But will men be wearing white face, top hats, and fake mustaches come this fall? In fashion, anything is possible. If you’re in Paris, um, now (Hi Leo!), you’ll need to make a stop at Colette simply to check out their windows. Everyone knows Mt. Rushmore, featuring former presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. But Item Idem, aka Cyril Duval, a French fashion artist, decided to infuse a bit of style into the monstrous construction. He created an LED display called Mt. Blushmore, replacing the heads of state with notable fashion figures Anna Wintour, Karl Lagerfeld, Donatella Versace, and John Galliano. And now, Colette decided to honor the artist with his own window exhibit, meaning the busts of fashion greats are on display and available for all to see. The arctic chill of Russia is what inspired John Galliano’s Fall 2009 collection. From balloon-y peasant blouses to full-skirted wool coats, everything echoed an Eastern European winter. Everything except the shoes, or more to the point: these shoes. Besides the furry pom-poms, nothing about Galliano’s Fall 2009 lace-up boots says winter. But that doesn’t stop us from loving them. They’re available in an array of colors, but our favorites are the red (here) and purple. Loving don’t mean buying though.
