The 5 Most Ridiculous Jobs In Fashion

Depending on your point of view, you could say every job in fashion is, at its heart, not just a little bit silly. But believe it or not, there are oh-so-many levels of ridiculousity. After reading the news about Rachel Bilson being named Sunglass Hut’s new (and first of its kind) “Eyewear Ambassador” — “I can’t say what makes me a good style adviser for them, but I am a huge sunglasses addict,” she told WWD — we started thinking about other funny and/or odd fashion jobs. They are, of course, presented after the jump! Keep reading »

Hey! Who Wants To Be A Honeymoon Tester?

The term “dream job” has a different definition for everyone. Mine would include some combination of kittens, meeting famous people, watching a lot of movies, and having people pay to hear what I have to say about those three things. My boyfriend’s dream job is probably to make a living by philosophizing about “Star Trek,” sports, and the supremacy of Dr Pepper over all other sodas. Our differences are obvious. But the website RunawayBrideAndGroom.com may have found an ideal occupation that could appeal to just about anyone. The position in question? A honeymoon tester or, as the site puts it, getting money “to sip champagne, while lying in a hammock slung between two palm trees on a white, sandy beach.” I. Am. Listening. Go on! Keep reading »

The Dark Side Of Being A Flight Attendant

Russian airline Aeroflot, which is known for its sketchy planes, disgusting food, and bad service, is getting a makeover. At least, their flight attendants are. The company’s new boss said he is only going to hire “very eye-catching girls.” Also, women who are larger than a size 10 need not apply. [Daily Mail]

We feel bad for these women, but, apparently, things aren’t much better on other airlines. If you think being a flight attendant is glamorous you are way behind the curve. Keep reading »

Job Disqualifications: Eight Types Of Men You Can’t Work With

According to “Page Six,” Parker Posey tipped a babelicious bartender 50 bucks on two glasses of wine. Clearly the recession isn’t affecting her hot pocket! But Parker, baby girl, hitting on a bartender is like trying to hold a rainbow. Sure, something about a man serving you is pretty darn seductive, but every girl in the room is getting his attention. Certain men are just hazardous to date because of how they earn their paycheck doesn’t allow them to value you. Here are some jobs that taint your chance at romance… Keep reading »

Poll: Would Your Relationship Suffer If He Lost His Job?

When the two people in a relationship make vastly different incomes, things can get tricky — just yesterday Wendy told us how she felt trapped in a past relationship because she didn’t make enough money to live on her own. Things could soon be flipped, though; According to the U.S. Department of Labor, there are 1.1 million fewer men working this year than last year, but 12,000 more women are working. How would you feel if your boyfriend lost his job but you were still employed? [Lemondrop] Keep reading »

How To Get Over Restless Life Syndrome

There was a period in my early twenties, not too long after college graduation, and even sooner after the painful break-up of my first real relationship, that I hopscotched through a series of dead-end jobs (seven in four months!), dated recklessly, and pumped my body with substances I wouldn’t clean a carburetor with these days. Then, one day, perusing the self-help aisle in Borders, I came across a book on the “quarterlife crisis.” I picked it up, found a comfy chair in the back of the store, and skimmed enough pages to understand there was a name for what I was going through, a phase, and it was just a matter of time before I’d move past it. We Don’t Want To Be Like Our Parents

It used to be that people followed in their parents’ footsteps, career-wise. If your dad was an ophthalmologist, you became an ophthalmologist, and so on, but things are changing. In part, this is because the apprenticeship system has changed, but mostly younger generations are choosing their own profession because the “do what you love” mentality has been adopted by the last few decades. “The whole idea that work should be fun is something that was invented by the baby boomer generation,” said Jenny Ungless, a career coach at Monster.com. But parents sometimes don’t even want their kids to follow in their footsteps. One-third of male lawyers in a survey by a U.K. recruiting firm said they didn’t want their kids to have the same job as them. And some jobs — like mine — didn’t even exist until a few years ago.
