What would it take for Joaquin Phoenix to come out of retirement?
Despite speculation earlier this year that Phoenix would resume his once-hot acting career with a film adaptation of ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ (the 2010 novel by Seth Grahame-Smith), the actor is now being linked to a much more controversial project.
And if there’s one thing Phoenix seems to relish, it’s controversy!
Phoenix — whose last film was the outrageous, head-scratching mockumentary ‘I’m Still Here’ — is now rumored to be reversing his retirement plans to co-star in Paul Thomas Anderson’s much-anticipated movie taking aim at Scientology. Read more… Keep reading »
The last time Joaquin Phoenix
appeared on David Letterman
‘s show, he stunned the talk show host with his shaggy appearance and caustic behavior. It’s since been revealed that Phoenix came on the show “in character” for the movie “I’m Still Here,”
his and Casey Affleck’s scripted pseudo-documentary about celebrity. Last night, he went back to Letterman’s stage to explain himself, confirm that Dave was not
in on the, for lack of a better word, “hoax,” and to apologize and thank Letterman for giving him a proper “beatdown.” Clip above! [via PopEater

Oh Joaquin Phoenix. We loved you in “Walk the Line” and “Reservation Road.” And we’re even willing to let it slide that you were in all those crappy M. Night Shyamalan movies. But this current thing you’re doing — your fake-rapper fake-documentary”I’m Still Here” — is really bumming us out. It’s not that you made a pseudo-documentary that’s so depressing — it’s that it looks totally, ridiculously unfunny. And for that, we can’t forgive. Keep reading »
I still have no effing clue what the Joaquin Phoenix documentary, “I’m Still Here,” (directed by accused sexual harasser Casey Affleck) is about, but I can’t wait to see it and find out. If only so I can finally learn what his god-awful crazy homeless man makeover was all about. Will Joaquin show up to the premiere freshly shaved or “in character” (if indeed this was a character)? I’m confusing myself. Sorry. Keep reading »
We’ve spent the last year trying to figure out if Joaquin Phoenix has really lost his marbles. Was the star really taking an acting hiatus to be a rapper? Was he really a superhero, or just on some heavy psycho-tropics? I was relieved when I found out that his shenanigans were all a part of a documentary project spearheaded by Casey Affleck. But a recent private screening of the film, “I’m Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix,” only made us more confused. Isn’t this thing too shockingly vulgar and debaucherous to be real? I must admit that I was a little bit devastated when former hottie, Joaquin Phoenix, took a trip to the dark side about six months ago. In his suitcase, he packed a beard, dark sunglasses, a rapping career, and a lot of controversy. The question that has been nagging at me ever since: Is he on vacation or moving there for good? Despite theories (I have my own, which I will share with you shortly) that he may be making this particular trip due to mental illness or as a publicity stunt for a documentary with pal Casey Affleck, it looks like he may be extending his stay. How do we know? He forgot a few key items and made a special trip to pick them up at a clothing joint on Melrose called RED BALLS. Keep reading »
