Did Jimmy Choo rip off fashion blogger and photographer Tommy Ton of Jak & Jil for its new 24:7 ad campaign? That’s what Ton appears to be suggesting in this recent tweet: “is it me or does the jimmy choo 24:7 campaign look a lot like…ahem…you know what i mean :S http://www.jimmychoo.com/page/home.” Ton rose to fame by way of his delightful shots of women on the street, often outside of fashion shows, many of which focus on their high heels. His style is distinctive: shoe-obsessed, stark street shots of women navigating the world on towering stilettos. These days, he sits front row at fashion shows, shoots fashion week in Paris for Style.com, and is working on a project with Louis Vuitton. As a regular reader of Jak & Jil, I certainly see the similarities. Check out the Jimmy Choo video — which even features a Ton-esque street photographer character — and Ton’s work side-by-side after the jump, then tell us what you think in the comments. Early this week we told you Uggs and Jimmy Choo are teaming up for a collaboration. And we used the power of Photoshop to imagine a pair of high-heeled Uggs. But lo and behold, Louis Vuitton already has a version of this shoe. Keep reading »
Get ready for it—ChUggs are coming your way. While it might seem like a fashion prank, the Jimmy Choo and Uggs are indeed teaming up to work on a collaboration. (Our Photoshop magic, however, is a fashion prank.) Yet, it does sound like the final product will be a pretty decent mix of the two styles. According to WWD and an official press release, “The collection will be based on the construction of Ugg’s sheepskin boots ‘with design details that embody the spirit of the Jimmy Choo brand,’ the two companies said in a statement.” And prices? Sky-high, of course. Expect to pay upwards of $500 for a pair!
What will this mean? High heeled boots? Fuzzy stilettos? We’ll be anxious to see where the two designers end up—and we can only hope that our vision is nowhere near the truth. [WWD] Keep reading »
And you thought you were testing the limits of devotion when you asked your guy to pick up some tampons for you. Here’s the story of a man who waited in line for 12 hours with his Jimmy Choo-obsessed girlfriend so she could be the first to score a pair just in from the hotly anticipated H&M collection: ” … while her fiance Will, 28, filled a flask with tea, donned his thermals, packed a rucksack with blankets and dug out a golf umbrella and a couple of camping chairs, Kate focused on the things that really mattered – the stuff bearing the legend ‘Jimmy Choo for H&M’,” writes the Daily Mail. Apparently, when this London branch of the chain opened its doors, Will wasn’t the only boyfriend doing some shopping. “Rob, a 26-year-old graduate student from Texas, had queued since 11pm for his girlfriend Brie’s Christmas present and maybe a couple of bags for eBay.” Keep reading »
Been chomping at the bit to see more of the Jimmy Choo
collection for H&M? Check out this exclusive video with Choo’s founder (and quite the stylish-looking lady) Tamara Mellon, who gives a walk-through of the line. Surprisingly, one of the best parts of the collection
is actually the clothes
, which have been overshadowed by Choo’s main draw (shoes, obvi). For starters, the cute electric blue shift Mellon wears in the video is part of the deal, plus there’s a glam black evening jumper and a one-shouldered leather dress with ruffle details. Everything is designed to be mixed and matched.
Some great fashion advice from Mellon: she starts conceptualizing an outfit based on the shoes first, and then the accessories. Do you ever dress from the bottom up? Or do you start with the clothes and then add on? [YouTube] Keep reading »
If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. At least that’s how the saying goes, right?
Jimmy Choo once attempted to launch a fragrance, to no avail. But they’re back at it. The brand just signed a 12-year agreement with Inter Parfums SA, the company responsible for the fragrances from design houses like Burberry, Lanvin, and Paul Smith. Goes to show, you can’t keep a good Choo down. But from shoes to perfume: it’s somewhat of a leap, no? And what exactly will it smell like? Not shoes or, um, feet we hope.
Don’t get us wrong! We love each and every thing about Choo, especially their new line with H&M. But will you buy a fragrance from a shoe company? Then again, guess it’s better than another Paris Hilton perfume. [Pop Crunch] Keep reading »
