Jil Sander Is Now Selling A Brown Paper Bag For $290, If That’s Your Thing

It doesn’t take much to brainwash me into buying something both exorbitantly expensive and totally unnecessary (see: anything that Anthropologie has ever sold), but I’ve finally found a ridiculous designer item that I don’t feel at all compelled to put in my cart!

Meet Jil Sander’s glorified brown paper bag. This sartorial innovation, otherwise known as “the next big thing,” is made from coated paper with some visible stitching, a couple of eyelets, and, of course, the requisite brand name printed at the bottom just to remind you that you are in fact carrying a $290 paper bag. And can you believe the guy at the bodega has been handing these things out for free all this time? [Gawker, Daily Mail]

Since John Galliano fell from grace in light of his now infamous anti-Semitic rant, the design team at Dior has gone unhelmed. Veritably every renowned name in design, from Alexander Wang to Riccardo Tisci, has been rumored as next in line for the throne. This time, it’s Raf Simons, who currently designs for Jil Sander, and things are looking serious. Reports in today’s WWD have cited sources claiming that the house of Dior is near to closing a deal with Simons to replace Galliano. Simons is already responsible for breathing new life into the Jil Sander brand, acknowledged as “one of the most desirable labels in the market today.” Keep reading »

Jil Sander’s In The Navy Now

Here’s our hope: all high-end designers will eventually jump on the lower-priced collection trend so that eventually there will be affordable Chanel for one and all! The latest step in the right direction comes from the label Jil Sander, which will soon launch a moderately priced line called Navy. (Hence, our clever Photoshop detail—we don’t actually think the goods will be nautical.) Keep reading »

Jil Sander’s Uniqlo Collection Disappoints

When word got out about Jil Sander‘s collaboration with Uniqlo, we were excited. The designer, who was first known for her chic office wear for women and then for her edgy minimalist creations, ranks high in sophistication. However, the first few images of +J, her line for the Japanese retailer, are disappointing. Meant to be “classic basics,” the pieces come off as bland and boring. There’s little to covet in this collection of button-downs, sweaters, coats, and pants. The only item that retains a touch of Jil Sander’s contemporary aesthetic is a short, brown waistcoat with a Mandarin collar.

Due out in the fall, +J includes over 100 pieces — so let’s hope the rest of the collection has more flavor. More images after the jump. [Grazia] Keep reading »

Quick Pic: Tears On Milan Runway

Lithuanian model Auguste Abeliunate had tears running down her cheeks during both of her turns on the Jil Sander runway. At first, some fashion guests thought this was a new makeup trend, but Abeliunate was the only model rocking the new style. And a blogger wrote that she was crying for our fashion sins. But we think she was all teary because her photog/rocker boyfriend broke up with her via text message right before the show. Keep reading »
