Today in Things I Should Have Seen Coming: the jewelry my ex-husband gave my was fake. And really, why wouldn’t it be? It’s the perfect, almost too cliche, synopsis to the story of our marriage. Lies — all of it.

Almost three years ago, at the start of what would become a long, drawn out and difficult divorce, I had tucked little pink suede bag that contained the jewelry he had given me away in the back of my safe. Admittedly, it wasn’t much: two rings, a third passed down to him from a family member, and a tennis bracelet.

It seemed unfathomable, at the time, that I would ever reach this point, standing in a quaint little shop trying to convert the pieces into cash. I imagined myself handing them over to our daughter when she was older or just letting it collect dust, because selling it would just be wrong. Disloyal. Tacky, even. Keep reading »

Must Haves: 13 Gorgeous Rose Gold Pieces

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, or so we’ve heard, but we’ll argue that rose gold is kind of our new squeeze. We don’t discriminate when it comes to precious metals, but there’s something about this one in particular that’s just so pretty. Its warm pinkish tone is so flattering on hands, and it’s less expected than the usual bronze and silver. For now, at least — rose gold is blowing up, and we may or may not be jumping on the bandwagon. Get the details on these 13 pretty rose gold pieces, and maybe we can match!

Style On The Stars: 8 Ear Cuffs Modeled By Daniel Day-Lewis

Daniel Day-Lewis, one of the hottest actors from the ’80s and early ’90s, famously took a five-year-hiatus from acting in order to become a cobbler in Italy. With his record-setting win at last night’s Academy Awards (he’s the first man to win three Best Actor trophies), it’s clear that Daniel is back and better than ever. You know what else is back? EAR CUFFS. And who better to model this trend than DDL himself? Click on for eight awesome ear cuffs worn by Daniel Day Lewis. I swear, I think I’m even hotter for him now.

It’s About Time To Buy A Really Fabulous Watch

I’ve been looking for a chunky, menswear-inspired watch for awhile now, and this one, with a black tuxedo stripe and ring of rhinestones, might be The One. I’ll wear it with a slouchy black V-neck sweater and jeans, and be fashionably on time everywhere I go. [$22, Nordstrom]

Must Haves: 12 Pieces Of Victorian Mourning Jewelry

Okay, so Victorian mourning jewelry isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. But some of it is prettttty cool. The Victorians were totally obsessed with death. Take Queen Victoria. After her hubby died, she wore black for the rest of her life, and slept with a cast of her husband’s arm. Yeah, not weird at all. Victorians commemorated their passed love ones in a variety of ways — through mourning photography (of you and your recently dead person!) and special mourning jewelry. The style of jewelry was created in part because Victorians thought it was uncouth to wear flashy jewels when you were in mourning, so much of the jewelry is simple and elegant, and made of unusual materials like celluloid and vulcanite. Sometimes, Victorians would snip lockets of their loved ones’ hair and incorporate it into the piece–which makes mourning jewelry the perfect accessory for watching “Beetlejuice” and listening to Smiths records.

Because of its unusual materials, mourning jewelry makes a definite statement. Check out 12 gorgeous pieces after the jump!
