Jessica Alba Says Good Actors Throw Out The Script

“Good actors never use the script unless it’s amazing writing. All the good actors I’ve worked with, they all say whatever they want to say.”

Jessica Alba talks about her craft in the latest issue of Elle and in the process angers a whole lot of screenwriters. See one of their responses after the jump. Keep reading »

What’s Up With CGI-Enhanced Nudity?

The perverts of America are freaking out because Jessica Alba‘s recent nude scene in “Machete” was apparently CGI-created. Instead of getting naked for the role, which Alba has steadfastly resolved to avoid at all costs, she wore white underwear which were then digitally removed in post-production. Judging from the before and after pictures, they took a couple pounds of flesh off as well. But people aren’t freaking out because of the chop-shop job on her tummy; it seems that people feel duped for believing they had actually seen Alba naked. Personally, I don’t understand why they care so much since so much of what we see in movies are body doubles anyway. And as Entertainment Weekly pointed out, there are only four options if an actress doesn’t want to be nude—cut the scene, wear a bra all the time like Carrie Bradshaw, use CGI, get a body double to fake it, or hire a new actress. And of the options, I think I might be on Team CGI, especially if the nudity is actually necessary for the role, which it totally wasn’t for “Machete.” If you’re looking for gratuitous nudity, why not go faux? [EW]

We’ve scrounged up some other CGI nude moments in movie history to continue the debate. Keep reading »

Should Jessica Alba’s Untamed “Va-Jay-Jay” Be A “Vagina”?

“Untamed Vaginas.” Now that‘s a cover line — one you’ll never, ever see on the cover of a mainstream magazine. So the September issue of Cosmopolitan went with this big splashy cover line over Jessica Alba’s crotch: “Untamed Va-jay-jays: Guess What Sexy Style Is Back.”

This is too much for blogger Leah Chernikoff at Fashionista. Railing against the use of “va-jay-jay” from “Grey’s Anatomy” to “Oprah,” she now has a “desperate plea” for a “moratorium” on the word. “When I hear people say it out loud I am a little embarrassed,” Chernikoff wrote. “What’s wrong with saying ‘vagina’?” For what it’s worth, Khloe Kardashian, of all people, agrees with her. Quotable: Jessica Alba Says Violence In “The Killer Inside Me” Is Actually Responsible

“It’s a Jim Thompson novel about a sociopathic killer who’s a coward! I think the detail that went into the killing of the women is actually showing how weak he is, because he’s preying on the people who loved him the most. I think a lot of people also want everything to be shiny happy people, and they want killing to be a sexy guy with his shirt off blowing guys’ heads off. This just shows how horrifying it is, which is responsible, actually.

Jessica Alba on the violent spanking and beating scenes in “The Killer Inside Me,” in which her character, a prostitute, is eventually killed by Casey Affleck’s character, a sociopathic cop. You know, I actually agree with Alba on this one: there’s a difference between glorifying violence against women and depicting violence gruesomely and honestly. Withholding judgment on this one until I see the flick myself. [NYMag.com] Keep reading »

Today’s Lady News: Jessica Alba Tells Woman Not To Get Plastic Surgery To Look Like Her

  • Jessica Alba thinks Xiaoqing — the 21-year-old Chinese woman who is allegedly getting plastic surgery to look like Alba because her boyfriend is obsessed with the actress — is as crazy as everyone else does. “I think you should never have to change yourself like that,” Alba said. “If somebody loves you, they’ll love you no matter what.” [New York Daily News]
  • Shoshana Johnson, 37, the nation’s first African-American female prisoner of war, talks about her ordeal in her a new book out this week, I’m Still Standing. What?! Chinese Woman Wants Plastic Surgery To Look Like Jessica Alba

Lordy, Lordy, I hope this news story is as fake as it sounds: a 21-year-old Chinese woman identified only as Xiaoqing allegedly told the Shanghai Daily newspaper she is so desperate to win back her ex-boyfriend that she’s getting plastic surgery to look like Jessica Alba. “I want to do something to challenge myself and build a strong personality through it,” the woman allegedly said. Well, considering Jessica Alba does not look even remotely Asian, Xiaoqing’s got her (sad, sad) work cut out for her!

Brutal Beatings In “The Killer Inside Me” Shock Sundance Crowds

The Sundance Film Festival is the place for new movies to get initial buzz. For Michael Winterbottom’s film “The Killer Inside Me,” the reaction seems to be outrage. The film is an adaption of Jim Thompson’s 1952 novel of the same name, and offers a dark and cruel look inside the mind of a vicious serial killer who takes a sickening delight in torturing and murdering women. It’s an aspect of the book that Winterbottom gruesomely exploits on screen. The trailer/highlight reel shows footage of Jessica Alba‘s character getting violently whipped and later beaten by the murderer, played by Casey Affleck. A beating that viewers of the film have said not only leaves Alba’s character dead, but her jaw bone exposed. The rest of her face resembles “hamburger meat.” Kate Hudson’s character is also brutally attacked in the film in a similar display of violence that leaves her with a broken windpipe. Keep reading »
