“It’s a Jim Thompson novel about a sociopathic killer who’s a coward! I think the detail that went into the killing of the women is actually showing how weak he is, because he’s preying on the people who loved him the most. I think a lot of people also want everything to be shiny happy people, and they want killing to be a sexy guy with his shirt off blowing guys’ heads off. This just shows how horrifying it is, which is responsible, actually.
— Jessica Alba on the violent spanking and beating scenes in “The Killer Inside Me,” in which her character, a prostitute, is eventually killed by Casey Affleck’s character, a sociopathic cop. You know, I actually agree with Alba on this one: there’s a difference between glorifying violence against women and depicting violence gruesomely and honestly. Withholding judgment on this one until I see the flick myself. [NYMag.com] Keep reading »
Lordy, Lordy, I hope this news story is as fake as it sounds: a 21-year-old Chinese woman identified only as Xiaoqing allegedly told the Shanghai Daily newspaper she is so desperate to win back her ex-boyfriend that she’s getting plastic surgery to look like Jessica Alba. “I want to do something to challenge myself and build a strong personality through it,” the woman allegedly said. Well, considering Jessica Alba does not look even remotely Asian, Xiaoqing’s got her (sad, sad) work cut out for her!

The Sundance Film Festival is the place for new movies to get initial buzz. For Michael Winterbottom’s film “The Killer Inside Me,” the reaction seems to be outrage. The film is an adaption of Jim Thompson’s 1952 novel of the same name, and offers a dark and cruel look inside the mind of a vicious serial killer who takes a sickening delight in torturing and murdering women. It’s an aspect of the book that Winterbottom gruesomely exploits on screen. The trailer/highlight reel shows footage of Jessica Alba‘s character getting violently whipped and later beaten by the murderer, played by Casey Affleck. A beating that viewers of the film have said not only leaves Alba’s character dead, but her jaw bone exposed. The rest of her face resembles “hamburger meat.” Kate Hudson’s character is also brutally attacked in the film in a similar display of violence that leaves her with a broken windpipe. Keep reading »

If Mo’Nique can’t be bothered to shave her legs on the night she knows she’s going to win a big award, there must be more Hollywood stars with razor-phobia, right? Huffington Post seemingly combed through hundreds of photos of celebs at Golden Globes after-parties, on the hunt for evidence of a trend. Jessica Alba gave them what they wanted! A very very very zoomed-in look at Alba’s pits reveals what looks to be at least a few errant strands of hair! Who’s next?! Jennifer Aniston? [Huffington Post] Keep reading »
Last night at the People’s Choice Awards Jessica Alba unveiled a new hair look—a super-blunt, shoulder-length cut. What do you think? (I actually didn’t even recognize her at first!) For those of you in the “I love” category, here’s what you ask your stylist for (bring in a photo of Jess, too): No layers—well, no choppy or short layers. You do, technically, want very long (think: a half-inch to an inch shorter than your actual hair), non-chunky layers. This will get rid of some of the weight of your hair and add movement at the ends. I love the length Jessica chose, as it highlights the bluntness and is still long enough not to feel to bob-ish. To get her style: Jessica’s hair is pretty wavy to begin with so a lot of what you are seeing is natural wave. For the rest of us, blow-dry hair paying special attention to the roots—give them a thorough blast of air with your head flipped over to create volume at the roots. Then, to create wave, use a medium or a slightly larger barreled curling iron, wrap sections of hair around it leaving the bottom two inches free. Using a teeny tiny amount of styling creme, rake your fingers to gently separate the curl. Keep reading »
It’s hump day again and since it’s the holiday season, we wish goodwill towards men. Except when those men go around shtupping a dozen ladies on the side, breaking hearts, and impregnating uteruses. And just so we always know who the bad guys are, we scrounge up all the totally, kinda true rumors about everyone and lay it out for your amusement, one tabloid at a time. These are the days of our lives, people. Keep reading »
