“Seeing a woman project the kind of aggression that you have to project as a comic just rubs me wrong. And they’re funny — I mean you got some very, very funny people that do beautiful work — but I have a problem with the lady up there that’s going to give birth to a child — which is a miracle.”

I didn’t even know 88-year-old Jerry Lewis was still alive, so it figures his views on women in comedy are (still) covered in cobwebs.  Why is he so convinced that women can’t be funny and “aggressive” while also being mothers and bearing children? Sounds like someone’s got a major Madonna/whore complex. [Huffington Post] [Image via Getty]

  • Comedian Jerry Lewis does not like any dainty little flowers, I mean women, who perform comedy, because it’s just so crass and unladylike. “I don’t have any,” he said when asked to name his favorite comediennes. “I can’t see women don’t that. It bothers me … I cannot sit and watch a lady diminish her qualities to the lowest common denominator.” And this is not, in fact, the first time the 87-year-old has said made bigoted statements like this. “Jerry Lewis once said that he didn’t think women were funny, so I’d just like to say, with all respect, ‘F*ck you!’”

– Judd Apatow accepted the Critics’ Choice Aware for Best Comedy film on behalf of “Bridesmaids” and gave comedian Jerry Lewis a long-overdue middle finger for a sexist comment made in 1998. While speaking to an audience at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, Lewis said ”I don’t like any women comedians” and “A woman doing comedy doesn’t offend me but sets me back a bit. I, as a viewer, have trouble with it. I think of her as a producing machine that brings babies in the world.” (Not surprisingly, Jerry Lewis is the same guy who said he wanted to “smack [Lindsay Lohan] in the mouth” and “give her a spanking.” What a charmer.) Be quiet and listen to Judd Apatow, Jerry. [Huffington Post]

Quotable: Jerry Lewis Says He Would “Smack Lindsay In The Mouth” & Give Her A Spanking

“I would smack [Lindsay Lohan] in the mouth if I saw her … I would say, ‘You deserve this and nothing else – whack!’ And then if she’s not satisfied, I’d put her over my knee and spank her. The same thing with Paris Hilton — those children are begging for help. What they’re doing is saying…‘Can you please help me?’ When people who have celebrity give nothing in return, they need a spanking and a reprimand.”

— Jerry Lewis to “Inside Edition.” No, that’s not paternalistic at all. Joking about hitting a woman in the mouth and then giving her spankings? I’m floored he thinks this is humorous. (Besides the point, the words “spanking” and “Lindsay Lohan” could be so much sexier.) What an a**hole. [Dlisted via “Inside Edition”] Keep reading »
