Jenny Slate is one of our favorite comediennes and we’re huge fans of her Marcel the Shell character. This past week, she was on “Conan” and discussed the origin of the magical Marcel voice — which is almost as creepy as it is cute — and the amazing viral videos that have turned Marcel into a star. Marcel is also a book, titled Marcel the Shell With Shoes On: Things About Me, and there are other characters featured, with other voices inspired by Jenny’s grandmas. Watch as she demonstrates. Marcel the Shell with Shoes On is becoming quite the celebrity! After garnering millions of fans with his YouTube videos, Marcel just released a book, and may soon be seen in a new TV show. He and his parents, Jenny Slate and Dean Fleischer-Camp, were recently interviewed on Williams’ new show “Rock Center,” and Marcel was not shy about giving as good as he got. When Williams asked Marcel what it was like having only one eye, the little shell shot back, “Has having one nose affected you in any way?” Boo-yah.
Our old friend Marcel the Shell with shoes on is back! And he’s got a bunch of new things to tell us, about how he travels (by bug), where he sleeps (in a slice of bread) and what he’d like his nickname to be (Ace, of course). Marcel happily illuminates life on the small side of things: “Guess why the bus isn’t running?” he queries. “Because the bus is a caterpillar and it threw up!” [YouTube]
In Gillian Robespierre’s amazing and hysterical new short, “Obvious Child,” a woman has a clumsy one-night stand and learns that she’s pregnant. And shock of all shocks–she decides to have an abortion! Yup, “Obvious Child” shows Jenny Slate’s character Donna deciding to have an abortion with little fretting or to-do. She’s not soul-searching or struggling, she’s simply exercising her right NOT to have a baby. It’s honest, hilarious and completely true to life–and a nice antidote to all the heavy-handed TV and film portrayals that make it seem as though having an abortion means you’re a bad or immoral person. This is a must-watch. [Vimeo]
Gabe and Jenny are best friends and very funny people. Jenny is Jenny Slate, who you might remember from last season’s “Saturday Night Live,” and Gabe is Gabe Liedman, her not-as-famous but equally hilarious buddy. In this episode of their new web series “Bestie x Bestie,” Gabe and Jenny talk about their bodies. Gabe explains that his butt is really hungry
and Jenny talks about her “gastro-storms.” Yum! [BuzzFeed
