We’re glad to see Jennifer Hudson back in the limelight after the tragedy that rocked her family just a few months ago. Last night, the singer and actress dominated the NAACP Image Awards. Hudson won three Image awards—best new artist, outstanding collaboration, and album for her self-titled CD. The audience gave her a standing ovation as she accepted her award. “Now don’t start me to crying again, y’all,” she said. “It’s always an honor to come home and feel welcome and to feel the love.” Not only did Hudson win three of her own awards, but “The Secret Life of Bees,” which Hudson starred in alongside Queen Latifah and Dakota Fanning, won for the best motion picture. It’s official: Michelle Obama is a Vogue cover girl. The March 2009 issue, which will hit newsstands next week, features the first lady on its cover wearing a Jason Wu dress (the same designer who created her inauguration night gown). Inside the magazine, Obama is pictured at the Hay-Adams hotel in Washington, D.C., wearing a Narciso Rodriguez dress and a J.Crew ensemble. While a number of first ladies have been featured in the so-called fashion Bible, starting with Lou Hoover in 1929, Hillary Clinton is the only other one to make the cover, in 1998. But perhaps what’s more exciting than Obama being the second first lady to be on the cover of Vogue is that she is the fourth black woman to be featured on the cover in the magazine’s history.
Dear Bossip.com,
Sometimes we link to your celebrity gossip stories in “Star Couplings” or “Quickies,” but we might not be doing that for awhile, or ever again, thanks to this little post. Yeah, we know that a lot of gossip sites making fun of and ridicule celebrities, but your post about Jennifer Hudson’s sister went way too far. Whoever killed Julia Hudson’s mother, brother, and son—the police have arrested her husband William Balfour—did so because he is a disgusting, depraved human being and not for any reason connected with the way Julia looks. Your headline, “The Hudsons Were Killed Over This Woman????”, not only makes light of a tragic situation, but it also shows a complete lack of understanding of the motivations behind domestic violence. And it’s just really, really effing mean.
Love,
The Frisky
Awful news…the body of a young boy, believed to be the nephew of Jennifer Hudson, who went missing after the deaths of her mother and brother on Friday, was found today. Jennifer’s brother-in-law was arrested on suspicion of committing the murders. [DListed]
