Sophia Loren Finally Explains Why She Gave Jayne Mansfield Such Epic Side-Eye

“She came right for my table. She knew everyone was watching. She sat down. And now, she was barely… Listen. Look at the picture. Where are my eyes? I’m staring at her nipples because I am afraid they are about to come onto my plate. In my face you can see the fear. I’m so frightened that everything in her dress is going to blow—BOOM!—and spill all over the table.”

Surely you’ve seen this infamous photo before, of Sophia Loren giving fellow Hollywood actress and glamazon Jayne Mansfield epic side-eye. While I’m sure many have theorized about all the possible reasons for Sophia to be shading Jayne — did she steal her man? claim the designer gown Sophia wanted to wear? steal her parking space?! — Loren told Entertainment Weekly that the truth is actually pretty ridiculous. Beautiful, brilliant, bizarre: Mansfield lives on as one of the most fascinating pop figures of the last century. Whatever you do, don’t forget a touch of pink. Keep reading »
